Introduction: The hermetic closure of the dura mater is a critical step in neurosurgical training, often undervalued but crucial to preventing serious complications such as cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks leading to meningitis and death. Inadequate closure, often due to insufficient training, can result in challenging complications, including prolonged hospitalization and reoperation.

Objective: To address the deficiencies in dural closure training, this study aims to describe a 3D prototype for simulating post-craniotomy dura mater suturing.

Roadside vegetated filters strips (VFSs) reduce roadway runoff pollution by intercepting stormwater and reducing pollutant loads. VFS maintenance and operating costs can be reduced by designing the VFSs to serve as sites for production of marketable biomass. This biomass can provide feedstock for the emerging bioeconomy producing renewable fuels and biobased chemicals and products.

Background: The overall goal of the present study is to investigate the economics of an integrated biorefinery converting hybrid poplar into jet fuel, xylitol, and formic acid. The process employs a combination of integrated biological, thermochemical, and electrochemical conversion pathways to convert the carbohydrates in poplar into jet fuel, xylitol, and formic acid production. The C5-sugars are converted into xylitol via hydrogenation.

Legal liability facing COVID-19 in dentistry: Between malpractice and preventive recommendations.

The dental profession is considered at high potential risk of exposure and transmission of SARS-Cov-2. Thus, dentists should implement special safety measures in order to prevent any possible contamination during dental sessions and should be aware of the legal implications of their act in order to avoid malpractice leading them to be a causative agent of transmission of this virus. This paper aimed to provide a global review on COVID-19 preventive recommendations at dental clinics and discussed the legal values of such procedures, the dentist criminal and civil liability arising from transmitting this virus to a patient, the obligation of care under COVID-19 and the possible solution to this dilemma.

A rare case of proximal gastric outlet obstruction misdiagnosed as pancreatic invasive tumor, case report.

Introduction: This report is a case of proximal gastric outlet obstruction, misdiagnosed after esophagogastroduodenoscopy as invasive pancreatic malignancy. We report this case because of its rarity and to encourage physicians to take this etiology into consideration as part of differential diagnosis.

Presentation Of Case: We present a case of 88 year-old lady presenting for 3 days history of post-prandial coffee ground vomiting associated with obstipation, misdiagnosed as pancreatic malignancy with duodenal invasion after outpatient gastroscopy.

Apical dye leakage of two single-cone root canal core materials (hydrophilic core material and gutta-percha) sealed by different types of endodontic sealers: An study.

Aim Of The Study: The aim of this study was to compare the apical sealing ability of two single-cone filling materials when sealed with different types of root canal sealers.

Materials And Methods: Eighty extracted maxillary and mandibular canines were selected and their crowns were cut. The root canals were prepared using ProTaper Universal rotary system until size F4 and then divided into seven experimental groups ( = 10 each) and two control groups ( = 5 each).

Choice of Endodontic Fiber Posts and its Influence on Dental Malpractice: An in vitro Evaluation.

Aims And Objectives: The fiber post type used in restoring endodontically treated teeth may affect the dental expert decision in the case of dental malpractice. The aim of this study was to evaluate the low-cost commercial fiber post in comparison with a higher cost or well-known documented fiber post system.

Materials And Methods: A total of 20 premolars were selected for the study; following endodontic treatment, specimens were randomly divided into two groups of 10 specimens each according to the type of fiber post used: (1) Low-cost commercial fiber post (OYAPost, Taper Lucent, OYARICOM) and (2) higher cost well-known fiber post (Rely X Fiber post, 3M ESPE).

Oral and craniofacial clinical signs associated to genetic conditions in human identification part I: a review.

Background: Forensic dentistry is one of the most reliable methods used in human identification when other technique as fingerprint, DNA, visual identification cannot be used. Genetic disorders have several manifestations that can target the intra-oral cavity, the cranio-facial area or any location in the human body.

Materials And Methods: A literature search of the scientific database (Medline and Science Direct) for the years 1990 to 2014 was carried out to find out all the available papers that indicate oral, cranio-facial signs, genetic and human identification.

Prevalence and impact of hepatic steatosis on the response to antiviral therapy in Saudi patients with genotypes 1 and 4 chronic hepatitis C.

Background: Hepatic steatosis in hepatitis C virus (HCV)-infected patients has been shown to enhance the progression of liver fibrosis and decrease the response to antiviral therapy.

Aims: We aimed to determine the role of HCV genotype 4 (HCV-G4) in the prevalence of hepatic steatosis, its impact on antiviral therapy, and its associations and predictive factors in comparison to HCV-G1-infected patients.

Methods: Treatment-naïve HCV patients who were started on pegylated interferon a-2b plus ribavirin therapy in two centers in Saudi Arabia were included.

High-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplant in adolescent patients with relapsed or refractory Hodgkin's lymphoma.

Fifty-eight adolescent patients with relapsed or primary refractory Hodgkin's lymphoma underwent high-dose chemotherapy (HDC) and autologous SCT (ASCT). The median age at ASCT was 17 years (range 14-21). The disease had relapsed in 24 patients (41%) and was refractory to initial chemotherapy in 34 (59%).

High-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplantation for Hodgkin's lymphoma in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia: King Faisal specialist hospital and research center experience.

We report our experience with high-dose chemotherapy (HDC) and autologous SCT (ASCT) in 66 patients out of 113 (113 patients out of 153 had complete analysis) with primary refractory Hodgkin's lymphoma (PR-HL) who received salvage chemotherapy followed by BEAM as HDC. Median age at ASCT was 23 years. Before salvage chemotherapy, stages I:II:III:IV were 2:21:14:29, bulky disease 27%, involvement of mediastinum 79%, spleen 26% and extranodal site 47%; 92% had ESHAP (etoposide, methylprednisolone, high-dose cytarabine, cisplatin) as salvage.

Background: Hepatic granuloma (HG) has a high reported incidence in Saudi Arabia (14.6%). We aimed to identify the incidence of HG in our centres and review its presenting features and underlying aetiology.

Background: The differentiation of extramedullary myelogenous leukemia/granulocytic sarcoma (GS) from malignant lymphoma can sometimes be difficult. In the current study, we explored the value of CD34, myeloperoxidase and nonspecific esterase (Leder) stains in differentiating GS from lymphomas.

Materials And Methods: Fifteen cases of phenotypically confirmed GS were stained for CD34, myeloperoxidase and Leder stains.

Hepatocellular carcinoma, syncytial giant cell: a novel variant in children: a case report.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the second most common primary malignant hepatic tumor in children. It often develops in patients with underlying liver disease. We report the clinicopathologic features of an unusual HCC occurring in an infant who presented with features of Cushing's syndrome due to bilateral adrenal hyperplasia.

Living related liver transplantation in 13 cases of progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis.

Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC) is a heterogenous group of disorders with various etiologies. Recent molecular and genetic studies have categorized the spectrum of types. Liver transplantation is a curative modality of treatment in this disease.

Aim: To report a rare case of oesophageal Paget's disease and its rarer combination with submucosal gland carcinoma of the lower oesophagus.

Methods And Results: A 74-year-old Saudi female was admitted with the complaint of dysphagia. Endoscopic examination showed an ulcerated tumour at the gastro-oesophageal junction.

Juvenile hyaline fibromatosis (JHF) is a rare hereditary disease characterized by the deposition of hyaline ground substance, which is described as fibrillogranular material on electron microscopy. Approximately 65 cases have been reported to date in the English language literature. We add 3 new cases of children presenting with multiple subcutaneous nodules.

Carnitine palmityl transferase I deficiency.

Carnitine palmityl transferase I is the key enzyme in the carnitine dependent transport of long chain fatty acids across the mitochondrial inner membrane and its deficiency results in a decrease rate of fatty acids beta-oxidation with decreased energy production. We reported a family of 3 affected siblings who are the product of a first degree cousin marriage. The first 2 presented with typical Reye-like syndrome with unconsciousness, hepatomegaly, hypoglycemia, hyperammonemia and very high liver enzymes.

[Imaging features of retained surgical foreign bodies].

Purpose: To study the clinical and radiological manifestations in patients with retained surgical foreign bodies.

Patients And Methods: Over the last five years, seven patients were found to have retained surgical foreign bodies after abdominal surgery. An analysis of the clinical signs, laboratory findings and imaging features was performed.

Living-related liver transplantation.

We report here, the first pediatric living-related liver transplant in Saudi Arabia and the Middle East. Our patient is a 2 year old girl with a diagnosis of progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis, causing intractable pruritus and failure to thrive requiring liver transplantation. The child was successfully transplanted using a segment of her mother's liver for living-related liver transplantation.
