Effect of Hydrocortisone on Intradialytic Hypotension: A Preliminary Investigational Study.

Introduction: Approximately 15 to 33% of all dialysis treatments are complicated by intradialytic hypotension (IDH). In this study, we tested the hypothesis that the intravenous administration of hydrocortisone prior to HD treatment could prevent IDH or at least decrease the drop in the blood pressure resulting from IDH.

Methods: This study was approved by our local ethics committee/IRB (2017/87) and by the Jordan Food and Drug Administration (7/clinical/18).

Investigating the Contribution of NPSR1, IL-6 and BDNF Polymorphisms to Depressive and Anxiety Symptoms in Hemodialysis Patients.

Aims: Psychological symptoms are prevalent in hemodialysis (HD) patients. Previous investigations showed that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) as well as the interaction with neuropeptide S receptor 1 (NPSR1) are linked to the development of psychological distress. This study examined the association of polymorphisms of genes encoding these proteins with depression and anxiety in a representative group of Jordanian HD patients.

Autoimmune Thyroid Disease and Keratoconus: Is There an Association?

Purpose: The association between autoimmune diseases and keratoconus (KC) has been proposed based on previous retrospective studies and case reports. The aim of our study is to investigate whether KC is associated with autoimmune thyroid disease A comparative study was conducted on 131 adult subjects from September 2015 to May 2017 at Jordan University Hospital, Amman, Jordan. Subjects were classified into 2 groups: subjects with autoimmune thyroid disease, including Graves' disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis ( = 68), and a healthy group for comparison ( = 63).

Blood Pressure and Its Association with Gender, Body Mass Index, Smoking, and Family History among University Students.

Hypertension is one of the major risk factors associated with cardiovascular diseases. In this study, we will assess the frequency of hypertension among healthy university students and its association with gender, body mass index, smoking, and family history of both hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. We screened healthy university students ranging from 18 to 26 years of age.

An adult ureterocele complicated by a large stone: A case report.
