In 2019, the International Consortium for Personalised Medicine (ICPerMed) developed a vision on how the use of personalized medicine (PM) approaches will promote "next-generation" medicine in 2030 more firmly centered on the individual's personal characteristics, leading to improved health outcomes within sustainable healthcare systems through research, development, innovation, and implementation for the benefit of patients, citizens, and society. Nevertheless, there are significant hurdles that healthcare professionals, researchers, policy makers, and patients must overcome to implement PM. The ICPerMed aims to provide recommendations to increase stakeholders' awareness on actionable measures to be implemented for the realization of PM.

In the setting of healthcare, the use of hand sanitizers and antiseptics for hand hygiene is of paramount importance to avoid transfer of pathogenic microorganism through hand and skin contact. There is an increasing interest in the incorporation of essential oils in hand sanitizer's formula to avoid the adverse effect of conventional hand sanitizers on health. This study aimed to detect the chemical constituents of citrus peel essential oils and study their antimicrobial activity compared with commercial hand sanitizers.

A screening programme of plants rich in plant phenolic tannins for molluscicidal activity against the snail species Bulinus truncatus and Biomphalaria pfeifferi is now under way. The spray-dried powders of the pods and stem bark of Acacia nilotica subspp. nilotica, tomentosa and astringens prove to be promising vegetable molluscicides.

The acetone, alcohol and aqueous extracts of the fruits and stem bark of Acacia nilotica subspp. tomentosa, astringens and nilotica showed molluscicidal activity against the two snail species which transmit schistosomiasis in the Sudan. Being effective against Bulinus truncatus and Biomphalaria pfeifferi, extracts of the Acacia nilotica subspecies may be promising vegetable molluscicides.
