Pancreatic Stones and Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy: A Review of the Literature.

Pancreatic stones are sequelae of chronic pancreatitis, resulting in poor quality of life, frequent hospitalizations, and a significant economic burden. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) can be used to treat pancreatic stones and is less invasive when compared to other modalities. In this review article, we have discussed the role of ESWL in the treatment of pancreatic stones and how it differs from other modalities.

Rapid reversal of colonic pneumatosis with restoration of mesenteric arterial supply.

Pneumatosis cystoides intestinalis (PCI) is characterized by gas-filled cystic lesions within the wall of the large intestine and presents along a spectrum of clinical severity ranging from benign to life threatening. Etiopathogenesis is multifactorial and postulated to result from either mechanical or bacterial causes. In this report, we present a patient with chronic abdominal pain evaluated with colonoscopy revealing segmental PCI isolated to the distal colon.

Collagenous colitis with mucosal ulcerations in a patient without nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug or lansoprazole use.

Chronic watery diarrhea combined with normal-appearing colonic mucosa at endoscopy with abnormal histopathology is classified as microscopic colitis. Microscopic colitis encompasses both collagenous and lymphocytic colitis. A 42-year-old Caucasian woman presented with severe diarrhea for six weeks with loose watery stools every 1-2 h, approximately 15 episodes per day.

Enterococcus gallinarum Spontaneous Bacterial Peritonitis in an HCV Cirrhotic.

We present the case of a 60-year-old Caucasian male with history of hepatitis C viral cirrhosis with portosystemic encephalopathy and ascites with evidence of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) with absolute neutrophil count (ANC) of 944 cells/µL blood. Despite adequate treatment, the abdominal pain and elevated creatinine continued to persist. Initial ascites fluid cultures returned back positive for growth of Enterococcus gallinarum.

Adverse Effects of Grape Seed Extract Supplement: A Clinical Case and Long-Term Follow-Up.

Grape seed extract (GSE) supplement use is becoming more popular today for its potential chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic role. We report a 49-year-old male who presented with recurrent nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and acute weakness following GSE use. A thorough medical workup ensued and no causes were identified clinically, procedurally, or with imaging.
