Objective: We investigated the effect of L-carnitine (LC) on cuprizone (Cup) demyelinating rat model and its possible underlying mechanisms.

Methods: Thirty male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly allocated to three groups: the normal control group; the Cup group, in which Cup was administrated at a dose of 450 mg/kg per day orally via gastric gavage for 5 weeks; and the Cup + LC group, which received the same dose of Cup as the Cup group, except that the rats were treated additionally with LC 100 mg/kg/day orally for 5 weeks. The nerve conduction (NCV) in isolated sciatic nerves was measured; then, the sciatic nerves were isolated for H&E staining and electron microscope examination.

Objective: To investigate the effect of vanillic acid (VA) on a Cuprizone (Cup) demyelinating rat model and the mechanisms behind such effect.

Methods: Thirty adult male Sprague Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into three groups: control, Cuprizone, and VA groups. Cuprizone was administrated at a dose of 450 mg/kg per day orally via gastric gavage for 5 weeks.

Article Synopsis
  • Head and neck cancer (HNC) involves cancers of the mucosal surfaces from the sinuses to the larynx, with around 3900 new cases annually in women and 8600 in men from 2016-2018.
  • A study assessed the teaching on HNC for UK medical students, finding that 23.2% received no education on it, and 54.3% of those who did were taught through large lectures.
  • The majority (87.1%) of respondents felt there should be more focus on HNC in medical training, highlighting concerns about current knowledge and confidence in recognizing symptoms and referral criteria.

Objective: Intraoperative hemorrhage and peripartum hysterectomy are the main complications in patients presenting with a low-lying placenta or placenta previa undergoing repeat Cesarean delivery (CD). Patients with a high probability of placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) at birth also have a higher risk of intraoperative urologic injury. The aim of this study was to evaluate the ultrasound signs and intraoperative features associated with these injuries.

Introduction And Hypothesis: The objective was to explore the association between urge urinary incontinence (UUI) and lax uterosacral ligaments (USL) using MRI.

Methods: Sixty-seven female participants were recruited prospectively: 41 continent volunteers (control group) and 26 patients with UUI. Static proton density- and T2-weighted turbo spin echo sequences of MR images were used.

Kidney failure, also known as end-stage kidney disease, is a medical condition in which the kidneys are functioning at less than 15% of normal. Kidney failure is classified as either acute kidney failure, which develops rapidly and may resolve; and chronic kidney failure, which develops slowly. Diagnosis of chronic failure is based on a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) of less than 15 or the need for renal replacement therapy.

Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder described by compromised insulin synthesis or resistance to insulin inside the human body. Diabetes is a persistent metabolic condition defined by elevated amounts of glucose in the bloodstream, resulting in a range of potential consequences. The main purpose of this study was to find out how biosynthesized copper oxide nanoparticles (CuONPs) affect the blood sugar levels of diabetic albino rats induced by streptozotocin (STZ).

Primary spinal cord tumors are relatively rare, comprising approximately 4%-16% of all tumors originating from the central nervous system. These tumors are anatomically separable into 2 broad categories: intradural intramedullary and intradural extramedullary. Intramedullary tumors are composed predominantly of gliomas (infiltrative astrocytoma) and ependymomas.

There is a growing demand and use of herbal cosmetics for skin purposes due to their perceived safety when applied to the skin. Three species commonly known as "ummemezi" are used interchangeably by women in rural areas of Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces to treat hypermelanosis as well as sun protection. We conducted a phytochemical comparison of three species; (Schinz) Alston, Tul.

In this study, the primary objective is to synthesize a novel fluorescent Rh-PP-Rh compound and explore its extensive range of photochemical behaviors. Initially, the synthesis of the novel Rh-PP-Rh was carried out for this purpose. Subsequently, UV-Vis and fluorescence spectroscopy were employed to investigate the interactions between Rh-PP-Rh and a diverse array of ions in aqueous solvent systems.

The most widely used method for detecting Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is real-time polymerase chain reaction. However, this method has several drawbacks, including high cost, lengthy turnaround time for results, and the potential for false-negative results due to limited sensitivity. To address these issues, additional technologies such as computed tomography (CT) or X-rays have been employed for diagnosing the disease.

Nowadays, breast cancer is considered one of the most upsetting malignancies among females. Encapsulation of celecoxib (CXB) and prodigiosin (PDG) into zein/sodium caseinate nanoparticles (NPs) produce homogenous and spherical nanoparticles with good encapsulation efficiencies (EE %) and bioavailability. In vitro cytotoxicity study conducted on human breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cell lines revealed that there was a significant decline in the IC50 for encapsulated drugs when compared to each drug alone or their free combination.

Epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) are integral to maintaining salt and water homeostasis in various biological tissues, including the kidney, lung, and colon. They enable the selective reabsorption of sodium ions, which is a process critical for controlling blood pressure, electrolyte balance, and overall fluid volume. ENaC activity is finely controlled through proteolytic activation, a process wherein specific enzymes, or proteases, cleave ENaC subunits, resulting in channel activation and increased sodium reabsorption.
