In this study, a new strategy was designed for simple, sensitive, and selective platform to detect the mRNA levels by combining a hairpin probe-graphene oxide (HP1/GO) and duplex-specific nuclease signal amplification (DSNSA). Iron-Containing Abdominal Pathologies: Exploiting Magnetic Susceptibility Artifact on Dual-Echo Gradient-Echo Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

A multitude of pathologic entities involve abnormal iron deposition in the abdomen. These lesions demonstrate decreased signal on longer magnetic resonance sequences with longer echo time due to T2* effect. Dual-echo gradient-echo sequences demonstrate increased susceptibility artifact with longer echo sequences.

Determinants of Vitamin D deficiency in asymptomatic healthy young medical students.

Objective: The study aimed to determine vitamin D status and frequency of its determinants related to diet, clothing, lifestyle and exposure to sunlight among young healthy medical students living in Karachi, Pakistan.

Methods: This cross sectional study included responses gathered on questionnaire from medical students of Karachi Medical &Dental College from 4 of August 2017 till 30 April 2018. All the participants were healthy young adult's year of age who gave written informed consent to participate in the study.

The study of membrane proteins is extremely challenging, mainly because of the incompatibility of the hydrophobic surfaces of membrane proteins with an aqueous medium. Detergents are essential agents used to maintain membrane protein stability in non-native environments. However, conventional detergents fail to stabilize the native structures of many membrane proteins.

Diagnostic accuracy of MRI with extracellular vs. hepatobiliary contrast material for detection of residual hepatocellular carcinoma after locoregional treatment.

Purpose: To compare the diagnostic accuracy of extracellular gadolinium-based contrast-enhanced MRI (Gd-MRI) and gadoxetic acid-enhanced MRI (EOB-MRI) for the assessment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) response to locoregional therapy (LRT) using explant correlation as the reference standard.

Methods: Forty-nine subjects with cirrhosis and HCC treated with LRT who underwent liver MRI using either Gd-MRI (n = 26) or EOB-MRI (n = 23) within 90 days of liver transplantation were included. Four radiologists reviewed the MR images blinded to histology to determine the size and percentage of viable residual HCC using a per-lesion explant reference standard.

This paper discusses the output characteristics of the sensor response of infrared ethanol gas detectors based on incident radiation intensity. Sensors placed at each focal point of two elliptical waveguides were fabricated to yield two module combinations and to verify the output characteristics. Natural Phenolics as Inhibitors of the Human Neutrophil Elastase (HNE) Release: An Overview of Natural Anti-inflammatory Discoveries during Recent Years.

Serine protease, Human Neutrophil Elastase (HNE), has been shown to be useful in medical science, however, its over production and malfunctioning may produce devastating effects and cause serious damage to the host. Health-related quality of life among pulmonary tuberculosis patients in Pakistan.

Purpose: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of pulmonary TB patients has not been assessed in Pakistan. We assessed self-reported HRQoL of pulmonary TB patients in Karachi, Pakistan utilizing the EQ-5D and EQ-VAS prior to, during, and after completion of TB treatment.

Methods: We enrolled 226 pulmonary TB patients in a longitudinal cohort study.
