Study Design: Meta-Analysis.
Objective: The purpose of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to pool the available data comparing MIS to open surgery for thoracolumbar fractures and provide a more comprehensive assessment on this topic.
Background: There remains a debate over whether minimally invasive surgery (MIS) or open fixation provides superior outcomes for patients with thoracolumbar fractures.
The effects of microplastic (MP) accumulation in freshwaters on organisms and ecosystem functions are poorly understood, as are the roles of MP particle properties in regulating these effects. In freshwater microcosms, we quantified variation in microbial communities and ecosystem functions and compared effects of MP concentration (0, 1000, 50000 particles/kg), shape (sphere, fragment, fibre), and polymer (polyethylene, polyethylene terephthalate, polypropylene, polystyrene) with those of a model invertebrate consumer (Chironomus riparius). We detected multiple effects of specific MP properties, especially associated with MP fragments and fibres, and the polymer polypropylene.

Materials And Methods: The approach involved adapting the open-source Gen3 platform and Kubernetes for the needs of the NIH HEAL IMPOWR and MIRHIQL networks. Key steps included customizing the Gen3 architecture, transitioning from Amazon to Google Cloud, adapting data ingestion and harmonization processes, ensuring security and compliance for the Kubernetes environment, and optimizing performance and user experience.
Background: The NIH Pain Common Data Elements (CDEs) provide a standardized framework for pain research, but their implementation and interpretation present challenges.
Objectives: To review the NIH CDE Program's selected pain domains, provide best practices for implementing required questions, and offer a checklist for appropriate CDE use in clinical trials and secondary data analysis.
Methods: This work analyzed the ten core pain research domains selected by the NIH CDE Program and discuss their limitations and considerations for use.

Degradation and fragmentation of mulching films represents an increasing source of microplastics (MPs, plastic particles 1 μm to 5 mm in size) to agricultural soils. MPs have been shown to affect many soil invertebrates, including springtails. However, these studies typically use test materials representing less environmentally relevant particle types, such as pristine uniform MPs, which do not represent the large range of particle sizes and morphologies found in the field.

Soil environments across the globe, particularly in agricultural settings, have now been shown to be contaminated with microplastics. Agricultural plastics - such as mulching films - are used in close or direct contact with soils and there is growing evidence demonstrating that they represent a potential source of microplastics. There is a demand to undertake fate and effects studies to understand the behaviour and potential long-term ecological risks of this contamination.

The network aims to develop integrated treatment pathways across multiple sites in the United States.
