Protection by Chinese herbs against Doxorubicin-induced focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis in rats.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of Chinese herbs on Doxorubicin-induced focal and segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) in rats. Twenty age-matched male Wistar rats were divided into two groups: group A (n = 10) given only water ad libitum served as the control group and group B (n = 10) was given Chinese herbs (40 ml/kg with drug concentration 1.75 g/ml) beginning at day zero.

Alteration of heart rate variability parameters in nondiabetic hemodialysis patients.

Objective: We attempt to identify heart rate variability (HRV) components and decide whether or not such components are more sensitive to the hemodialysis (HD) process by excluding the presence of comorbid conditions known to affect HRV.

Methods: It was a prospective cohort study of factors associated with HRV. Thirty-five HD patients were admitted to the study.

The alteration of QT dispersion in hemodialysis subjects.

Objective: We attempted to observe the alterations in QTd and QTcd in chronic renal failure (CRF) patients before and after hemodialysis (HD) to determine the relevant determinants of QTc duration in HD.

Methods: The HD was carried out 2 or 3 times/week in a standard setting for 4-4.5 h.
