Objectives: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) victims receiving defibrillation from an automated external defibrillator (AED) placed early in the chain of survival are more likely to survive. We sought to explore the accuracy of AED pad placement for lay rescuers (LR) and first responders (FR).
Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of data collected during randomized OHCA simulation trials involving LRs and FRs.
Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer in the United Kingdom and the second largest cause of cancer death.
Aim: To develop and validate a model using available information at the time of faecal immunochemical testing (FIT) in primary care to improve selection of symptomatic patients for CRC investigations.
Methods: We included all adults (≥ 18 years) referred to Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust between 2018 and 2022 with symptoms of suspected CRC who had a FIT.
In 2018 the European Commission adopted revisions to the Annexes of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 concerning registration, evaluation, authorisation and restriction of chemicals (REACH) to introduce nanomaterial-specific clarifications and provisions. Multicomponent nanomaterial (MCNM) is a non-regulatory term that has been used in recent EU-funded projects to describe nanomaterials with a complex structure and/or composition and which are expected to be increasingly used in products in the near future. Yet, it is unknown if older adults exhibit greater tibial compression than their younger counterparts when descending stairs.
Research Question: Do older adults exhibit differences in ankle biomechanics that alter their tibial compression during stair descent compared to young adults, and is there a relation between tibial compression and specific changes in ankle biomechanics?
Methods: Thirteen young (18-25 years) and 13 older (> 65 years) adults had ankle joint biomechanics and tibial compression quantified during a stair descent.
While much attention has been paid to understanding slip-related falls in humans, little has been focused on curvilinear paths despite their prevalence, distinct biomechanical demands and increased slipping threat. We determined the mechanics, compensatory stepping reactions and fall risk associated with slips during fixed-speed walking across ranges of path curvature, slipped foot and slip onset phase contexts possible in the community, which builds upon previous work by examining speed-independent effects of curvilinear walking. Twenty-one participants experienced 15 unconstrained slips induced by a wearable friction-reducing device as motion capture and harness load cell data were recorded.

Measurements of anharmonicity, intermode vibrational coupling strength, vibrational relaxation time, and solvation dynamics of the CO and CN stretching modes of in HO, DO, methanol, dimethyl sulfoxide, and acetonitrile reveal that H-bonding to the CN ligands plays an important role in defining the spectroscopic characteristics and relaxation dynamics of the Fe(CO)(CN) unit.

Current measurement approaches use multistep assays, which probe the protein-bound drug fraction indirectly and do not provide fundamental structural or dynamic information about the protein-drug interaction. We demonstrate that ultrafast 2D-IR spectroscopy can overcome these issues by providing a direct, label-free optical measurement of protein-drug binding in blood serum samples.
