Efficacy of nonsurgical periodontal therapy affecting salivary biomarkers in non-diabetic and type 2 diabetic periodontitis patients. An observational study.

Objectives: To assess the effects of non-surgical periodontal therapy on salivary biomarkers in non-diabetic and type 2 diabetic periodontitis patients and to investigate if saliva may be used to monitor glucose levels in type 2 diabetes.

Material And Methods: 250 participants with chronic generalized periodontitis aged 35-70 years were divided into two groups: test group with type 2 diabetes (125 subjects with 64 males & 61 females) and control group with non-diabetic (125 subjects with 83 males & 42 females). Here we report that the dipteran, Exorista bombycis, parasitization leads to pro-oxidative reactions and activation of anti-oxidative enzymes in the silkworm Bombyx mori larva.

Comparison of serum erythropoietin levels in smokers and nonsmokers with periodontitis: A biochemical study.

Aims: This study was carried out to compare serum erythropoietin (Epo) levels in smokers and nonsmokers with periodontitis.

Materials And Methods: Fifty-one subjects of both sexes (age range: 30-65 years) with chronic periodontitis (CP) participated in this study. Seventeen patients with generalized CP, nonsmokers without anemia were included in Group I (control group), 17 patients with generalized CP, nonsmokers with anemia were included in Group II, and 17 patients who were smokers, having generalized CP were included in Group III.

Management of homicidal cut-throat injuries requires a multi-disciplinary approach. Comparison of salivary calcium level in smokers and non-smokers with chronic periodontitis, aggressive periodontitis, and healthy controls.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare salivary calcium (Ca) level in smokers and non-smokers with chronic periodontitis, aggressive periodontitis, and healthy controls.

Materials And Methods: 56 subjects were included in the study and were grouped as follows: 12 subjects who were periodontally healthy (Group I), 12 subjects having chronic periodontitis who were non-smokers (Group II), 12 non-smokers having aggressive periodontitis (Group III), 12 smokers with chronic periodontitis (Group IV), and 8 smokers with aggressive periodontitis (Group V). Clinical measurements and non-stimulated whole saliva samples were obtained and analyzed for Ca levels by ion-selective electrolyte analyzer.

The palatal masticatory mucosa is widely used as donor material for periodontal plastic surgery. The thickness of graft tissue is important for graft survival. We investigated the thickness of palatal mucosa using a bone sounding technique.

Effect of pretreatment with ketorolac tromethamine on operative pain during periodontal surgery: A case-control study.

Background: The efficacy of a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent, ketorolac tromethamine, was evaluated in pain control after periodontal surgery. This type of agent acts peripherally by inhibiting the release of prostaglandins and minimizing the local inflammatory response. Thus, there may be an advantage in pretreatment administration of ketorolac tromethamine, 10 mg, compared with placebo on operative pain during periodontal surgery.

Palato-radicular groove and localized periodontitis: a series of case reports.
