Article Synopsis
  • This study developed a new model that merges clinical data and imaging results to more accurately predict early recovery from urinary incontinence following robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP).
  • Researchers analyzed data from 293 patients, finding that 47.6% were pad-free within a month, with over 90% achieving continence by six months.
  • Significant predictors for recovery included BMI, nerve-sparing techniques, and bladder neck positioning, leading to the creation of a nomogram to help clinicians manage patient care and alleviate concerns.

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to evaluate early continence outcomes after a specific surgical technique (three-layer vesicourethral reconstruction) during robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) in 170 prostate cancer patients.
  • Results showed that patients who underwent the three-layer reconstruction had significantly better continence rates at various postoperative intervals compared to those who had a one-layer reconstruction, with a 42% lower risk of incontinence.
  • Postoperative cystography results indicated that the three-layer group experienced less leakage and better bladder neck positioning, which contributed to overall improved continence outcomes.

Patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) are at a higher risk of developing renal cell carcinoma (RCC) than the general population. In vitro and in vivo investigations of the effects of sodium glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2I) have shown a significantly reduced risk of RCC. However, the impact of these drugs on the incidence of RCC in the human population is unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • This study evaluated the outcomes of bladder-preservation strategies using maximal transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURBT) combined with either pembrolizumab or chemotherapy in patients with muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC) who opted against radical treatment.
  • A total of 53 patients were analyzed, and 43.4% achieved clinical complete response after treatment, with slightly better results in the pembrolizumab group compared to chemotherapy.
  • The study found that patients receiving pembrolizumab had longer progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) compared to those receiving chemotherapy, highlighting the potential of bladder preservation as a viable treatment option for selected MIBC patients.

We aimed to investigate the association between either or both of benzodiazepines (BZDs) and non-BZDs and the incidence of atrial fibrillation (AF) in the Taiwan National Health Insurance Database. The participants with at least two prescriptions of BZDs and/or non-BZDs were identified as hypnotics users, whereas those without any prescription of hypnotics were non-hypnotics users. The hypnotics and non-hypnotics cohorts were 1:1 matched on their propensity scores.

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the most common subtypes of cardiovascular disease. The progression of CAD initiates from the plaque of atherosclerosis and coronary artery stenosis, and eventually turns into acute myocardial infarction (AMI) or stable CAD. Alpha-1-antichymotrypsin (AACT) has been highly associated with cardiac events.

BACKGROUND: The ejection fraction (EF) provides critical information about heart failure (HF) and its management. Electrocardiography (ECG) is a noninvasive screening tool for cardiac electrophysiological activities that has been used to detect patients with low EF based on a deep learning model (DLM) trained via large amounts of data. However, no studies have widely investigated its clinical impacts.

Nail psoriasis significantly impacts the quality of life in patients with psoriasis, which affects approximately 2-3% of the population worldwide. Disease severity measures are essential in guiding treatment and evaluation of therapeutic efficacy. However, due to subsidy, convenience and low costs of health care in Taiwan, doctor usually needs to manage nearly hundreds of patients in single outpatient clinic, leading to difficulty in performing complex assessment tools.

Background: Daily and on-demand pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) has been well demonstrated to effectively prevent HIV acquisition for men who have sex with men (MSM). More than half of the MSM PrEP users in Taiwan prefer on-demand PrEP; however, on-demand PrEP involves a complicated dosing regimen because it requires precoital and postcoital dosing and sex events are hard to anticipate. Although there are a growing number of mobile apps designed to improve access to HIV prevention services and HIV medication adherence, few mobile apps focus on adherence to PrEP or are designed to accommodate a complicated, on-demand PrEP dosing schedule.
