Article Synopsis
  • Large datasets of fundus images for eye diseases have been collected to train deep learning models for diagnosing common conditions like diabetic retinopathy, but many systems overlook rare, sight-threatening diseases.
  • A grand challenge called "Retinal Image Analysis for multi-Disease Detection" was held at the IEEE International Symposium on Biomedical Imaging to enhance automatic detection for both common and rare eye diseases, using a new dataset called RFMiD.
  • The challenge attracted significant interest, with 74 submissions, and the best solutions combined techniques like data-preprocessing, augmentation, and model ensembling to improve detection capabilities across a wider range of ocular diseases.

Background: Floatation-REST (Reduced Environmental Stimulation Therapy), an intervention that attenuates exteroceptive sensory input to the nervous system, has recently been found to reduce state anxiety across a diverse clinical sample with high levels of anxiety sensitivity (AS). To further examine this anxiolytic effect, the present study investigated the affective and physiological changes induced by Floatation-REST and assessed whether individuals with high AS experienced any alterations in their awareness for interoceptive sensation while immersed in an environment lacking exteroceptive sensation.

Methods: Using a within-subject crossover design, 31 participants with high AS were randomly assigned to undergo a 90-minute session of Floatation-REST or an exteroceptive comparison condition.

In this study, tripropylene glycol was used as a reducting agent in the polyol process to reduce silver nitrate to the form of silver particles deposited onto the surface of bamboo charcoal (BC). The reduction temperature and time were critical parameters as they control the size of the silver particles formed as well as their distribution onto the surface of the BC. The reduction of silver nitrate by the tripropylene glycol occurred at a temperature of 120 °C for 3 h, and the silver particles, which had a face-centered cubic lattice structure, were distributed onto the surface of the BC.

This study investigated the use of ethylene glycol to form α-MoO₃ (molybdenum trioxide) from ammonium molybdate tetrahydrate at various sintering temperatures for 1 h. During the sintering process, the morphologies of the constituents were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy was used to explain the reaction process. In this work, the results obtained using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XRD) demonstrated that, when the molybdenum trioxide powder was treated thermally at 300 °C, the material exhibited crystallinity.

We performed a retrospective chart review of 50 youths with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), prescribed amitriptyline (AMI) for hyperactivity and impulsivity. Data was systematically extracted from 50 outpatient clinic charts, including AMI treatment duration, dose, trough levels and adverse events. Mean age was 9.

We retrospectively reviewed clinic charts of 21 children and adolescents with developmental disabilities including autism spectrum disorders (ASD) treated consecutively with aripiprazole (ARI) for irritability and severe challenging behaviors. Data extracted include age, sex, and race; level of intellectual disability (ID); Diagnostic and Statistical Manual-IV diagnoses including comorbidity, ARI dosage, and treatment duration; other psychoactive medications and Clinical Global Impressions-Improvement (CGI-I) at baseline and end point; weight; height; and side effects. Body mass index (BMI) z scores are compared with Centers for Disease Control norms.

Human p29 has been demonstrated in the yeast two-hybrid method and in vitro GST pull-down assay to associate with GCIP, a cyclin D interacting protein. In this study, we describe the cloning and genomic structure of the mouse homologue, mp29. The overall mouse mp29 amino acid sequence is highly identical (91%) to human p29.
