This study verified the consistency of authors' workflow and strategies between 3D planning and surgical execution for facial asymmetry. This retrospective study recruited consecutive patients (n=54) with nonsyndromic facial asymmetry associated with malocclusion.

Adjuvant Immunotherapy in Curative Intent Esophageal Cancer Resection Patients: Real-World Experience within an Integrated Health System.

Background: Adjuvant immunotherapy has been shown in clinical trials to prolong the survival of patients with esophageal cancer. We report our initial experience with immunotherapy within an integrated health system.

By utilizing bicontinuous and nanoporous ordered nanonetworks, such as double gyroid (DG) and double diamond (DD), metamaterials with exceptional optical and mechanical properties can be fabricated through the templating synthesis of functional materials. However, the volume fraction range of DG in block copolymers is significantly narrow, making it unable to vary its porosity and surface-to-volume ratio. Here, the theoretically limited structural volume of the DG phase in coil-coil copolymers is overcome by enlarging the conformational asymmetry through the association of mesogens, providing fast access to achieving flexible structured materials of ultra-high porosities.

Assessing the effectiveness of mitigating pesticide-related disease risk among pesticide-spraying drone operators in Taiwan.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the risk of pesticide poisoning, liver and renal failure, dermatitis, respiratory problems, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, keratitis, and epilepsy among pesticide-spraying personnel and to assess the effectiveness of a new method of aerial pesticide application in reducing this risk.

Methods: A total of 2268 pesticide spraying operators (1651 ground-based field crop operators and 617 aerial pesticide spraying drone operators) who passed the national certification examination between 2010 and 2020 in Taiwan were included. Ground-based operators served as the positive control group, while 2463 farmer controls were matched from the Farmers' Health Insurance database as the negative control group.

Purpose: To determine if there is a correlation between lateral tibial slope and long-term clinical results in patients who underwent double-bundle ACL reconstruction.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients that received double-bundle ACL reconstruction at a single institution by a single surgeon from January 2011 to December 2014. All the magnetic resonance imaging were reviewed and lateral tibial slopes (LTS) were recorded by an experienced surgeon and rechecked by the other two authors of this study that specialized in orthopedic knee surgery.

Anastomosing haemangioma of the mediastinum: Clinicopathological series with radiological and genetic characterisation.

Aims: Anastomosing haemangiomas are benign tumours with anastomosing vascular channels that may mimic angiosarcoma. While anastomosing haemangiomas have been described in diverse locations, particularly the abdominal/paraspinal region, data on anastomosing haemangiomas in the mediastinum remain limited. We report the clinicopathological, radiological and molecular characteristics of the largest single-institutional series of mediastinal anastomosing haemangiomas.

Propofol, an anesthetic characterized by its benefits of rapid induction, maintenance, and recovery times, may cause cytotoxic effects, resulting in propofol infusion syndrome (PRIS). In addition to causing dyslipidemia in PRIS, our previous works showed that propofol overdose induced phagocyte apoptosis. This study, using an experimental ex vivo model of propofol treatment, investigated the possible cytopathology in the blood.

Frailty assessment by two screening instruments in non-elderly patients with head and neck cancer.

Purpose: Frailty assessment is often overlooked in non-elderly patients with cancer, possibly due to the lack of an effective frailty screening tool. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of two modern frailty screening tools, the Flemish version of the Triage Risk Screening Tool (fTRST) and the modified 5-Item Frailty Index (mFI-5), compared to the gold standard comprehensive geriatric assessment (GA) among non-elderly patients with head and neck cancer (HNC).

Methods: We prospectively included 354 consecutive patients aged < 65 years with newly diagnosed HNC scheduled for definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) at three academic hospitals in Taiwan between January 2020 and December 2022.

We investigated whether the upper limb muscle stiffness quantified by the acoustic radiation force impulse shear wave elastography (ARFI/SWE) is a potential biomarker for age-related muscle alteration and functional decline in patients with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). 37 patients with DMD and 30 typically developing controls (TDC) were grouped by age (3-8, 9-11, and 12-18 years). ARFI/SWE measured the biceps and deltoid muscle's shear wave velocities (SWVs).

Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are important post-transcriptional gene regulators controlling cellular lineage specification and differentiation during embryonic development, including the gastrointestinal system. However, miRNA-mediated regulatory mechanisms involved in early embryonic development of human small intestine (SI) remains underexplored. To explore candidate roles for miRNAs in prenatal SI lineage specification in humans, we used a multi-omic analysis strategy in a directed differentiation model that programs human pluripotent stem cells toward the SI lineage.

Terahertz waves offer advantages for nondestructive detection of hidden objects/defects in materials, as they can penetrate most optically-opaque materials. However, existing terahertz inspection systems face throughput and accuracy restrictions due to their limited imaging speed and resolution. Furthermore, machine-vision-based systems using large-pixel-count imaging encounter bottlenecks due to their data storage, transmission and processing requirements.

The surgical resection of solid tumours can be enhanced by fluorescence-guided imaging. However, variable tumour uptake and incomplete clearance of fluorescent dyes reduces the accuracy of distinguishing tumour from normal tissue via conventional fluorescence intensity-based imaging. Here we show that, after systemic injection of the near-infrared dye indocyanine green in patients with various types of solid tumour, the fluorescence lifetime (FLT) of tumour tissue is longer than the FLT of non-cancerous tissue.

Sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor add-on therapy for metformin delays diabetic retinopathy progression in diabetes patients: a population-based cohort study.

To investigate how sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitors (SGLT2is) add-on therapy for metformin affects diabetic retinopathy (DR) progression in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This nationwide population-based study conducted from January 1, 2016, to December 31, 2018 involved 3,432,911 adults with T2DM in Taiwan. To adjust for potential confounders, data on sex, age, income, comorbidities, diabetes complication severity index score, staging of kidney disease, anti-diabetic medications, and index year were included.

Examiner bias could be objective, which means it can't be changed by the examiner like gender, age, race, educational level, or professional experience.
