Mosquitoes are important vectors of several diseases, and control of these insects is imperative for human health. Insecticides have proven useful in controlling mosquito populations, but insecticide resistance and environmental concerns are increasing. Additionally, emerging and re-emerging microbial infections are problematic.

The prognosis for people with the high-grade brain tumor glioblastoma is very poor, due largely to low cell death in response to genotoxic therapy. The transcription factor BCL6, a protein that normally suppresses the DNA damage response during immune cell maturation, and a known driver of B-cell lymphoma, was shown to mediate the survival of glioblastoma cells. Expression was observed in glioblastoma tumor specimens and cell lines.

The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of gender on outcomes among adult burn patients. A retrospective study was conducted on 5061 adult burn patients (16 - 64 years old) admitted to the Vietnam National Burn Hospital over a three-year period (2016 - 2018). Demographic data, burn features and outcome including complications, length of hospital stay and mortality of male and female groups were compared.

New (1-x)BiNaTiO + xCaFeO solid solution compounds were fabricated using a sol-gel method. The CaFeO materials were mixed into host BiNaTiO materials to form a solid solution that exhibited similar crystal symmetry to those of BiNaTiO phases. The random distribution of Ca and Fe cations in the BiNaTiO crystals resulted in a distorted structure.

Three new pregnane glycosides, drevoluosides O-Q (-) along with five known volubiloside C (), dreageoside A11 (), 17-marsdenin (), stavaroside H (), and hoyacarnoside G () were isolated from the methanol extract of the leaves. Their structures were elucidated by chemical and spectroscopic methods. Compounds - showed significant anti -glucosidase activity with the inhibitory percentages ranging from 32.

Background And Objectives: We performed this study to evaluate serum iron and ferritin concentrations, serum total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), and proportion of overall iron deficiency among patients with non-dialysisdependent chronic kidney disease (ND-CKD).

Methods And Study Design: A hospital-based cross-sectional observational study was conducted on 175 adult patients with stage 3-5 chronic kidney disease (CKD) by using 51 healthy age-sex-matched Vietnamese adults as the control group. We next examined the prevalence of anemia and determined the serum iron and ferritin concentrations and TIBC.

Whether HPV is causative of pregnancy complications is uncertain. E6 and E7 affect functions underling preeclampsia (PET) in cultured trophoblasts, but whether E6 and E7 is produced in the placenta is uncertain. Here, we investigated whether / was expressed in the placentae from pregnancies with PET, other pregnancy complications (fetal growth restriction (FGR) and diabetes mellitus), and uncomplicated pregnancies.

Background: Short-term peripheral venous catheter-related bloodstream infection (PVCR-BSI) rates have not been systematically studied in resource-limited countries, and data on their incidence by number of device days are not available.

Methods: Prospective, surveillance study on PVCR-BSI conducted from September 1, 2013, to May 31, 2019, in 727 intensive care units (ICUs), by members of the International Nosocomial Infection Control Consortium (INICC), from 268 hospitals in 141 cities of 42 countries of Africa, the Americas, Eastern Mediterranean, Europe, South East Asia, and Western Pacific regions. For this research, we applied definition and criteria of the CDC NHSN, methodology of the INICC, and software named INICC Surveillance Online System.

Members of the genus (Lauraceae) have aromatic volatiles in their leaves and bark and some species are commercially important herbs and spices. In this work, the essential oils from five species of (, , , and ) growing wild in north central Vietnam were obtained by hydrodistillation, analyzed by gas chromatography and screened for antimicrobial and mosquito larvicidal activity. The leaf essential oil of , rich in β-phellandrene (23.

Enterovirus-A71 (EV-A71) cyclically causes hand-foot-mouth disease (HFMD) epidemics in Asian children. An EV-A71 epidemic occurred in Southern Vietnam in 2011, but its scale is not clear. We collected residual sera from non-HFMD Vietnamese inpatients in 2012-2013 to determine seroprevalence of EV-A71 neutralizing antibodies, and measured cross-reactive neutralizing antibody titers against three EV-A71 genogroups.

Background: Large (≥3 cm) benign thyroid nodules usually cause clinical symptoms or cosmetic concerns and therefore require treatment. Microwave ablation (MWA) is a potential valid non-surgical treatment alternative, but there is a lack of evidence. Thus, this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of MWA in the treatment of large benign thyroid nodules.

Parenteral ketamine has fast-onset antidepressant and antianxiety effects; however, it causes dissociation, hypertension, and tachycardia shortly after dosing. Ketamine's antidepressant effects may be due to active metabolites rather than to ketamine itself. We hypothesized that oral controlled-release ketamine tablets would improve safety and tolerability compared with injected ketamine by reducing peak ketamine exposures compared with dosing by injection.

Background: Colletotrichum is a rare cause of human infection. Previous reports about Colletotrichum keratitis were limited, and most diagnoses from past reports were based on morphological distinction, which could have led to underestimation of the prevalence of Colletotrichum species.

Objective: We reported phylogenetic analysis, clinical feature and treatment outcome of molecularly diagnosed Colletotrichum keratitis in our hospital.

To assess the effectiveness of extra-curricular activities in improving reproductive health knowledge of ethnic minority students in mountainous areas in Vietnam. The study was conducted on 400 ethnic minority students at Dien Bien Dong Ethnic Minority High School in Vietnam. The selected healthy students with a similar mix of study results and grades were divided into two groups: a control group had no the extra-curricular activities on reproductive health, and an experimental group participated extra-curricular activities on reproductive health.

Hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) is an emerging infection with pandemic potential. Knowledge of neutralizing antibody responses among its pathogens is essential to inform vaccine development and epidemiologic research. We used 120 paired-plasma samples collected at enrollment and >7 days after the onset of illness from HFMD patients infected with enterovirus A71 (EV-A71), coxsackievirus A (CVA) 6, CVA10, and CVA16 to study cross neutralization.

The herbicide, propanil, has been extensively applied in weed control, which causes serious environmental pollution. Acinetobacter baumannii DT isolated from soil has been used to determine the degradation rates of propanil and 3,4-dichloroaniline by freely suspended and biofilm cells. The results showed that the bacterial isolate could utilize both compounds as sole carbon and nitrogen sources.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study demonstrated that GC×GC-EI-MS significantly improved peak separation compared to traditional GC-EI-MS, although the Orbitrap mass analyzer had limitations in data acquisition rate, which could affect the resolution of narrow chromatographic peaks.
  • * The analysis of a cellulose bio-oil sample using GC×GC-MS resulted in a well-resolved chromatogram that allowed for the identification of various molecules based on their EI mass spectra, showcasing the technique's effectiveness in bio-oil analysis.
