The development of the memristor has generated significant interest due to its non-volatility, simple structure, and low power consumption. Memristors based on graphene offer atomic monolayer thickness, flexibility, and uniformity and have attracted attention as a promising alternative to contemporary field-effect transistor (FET) technology in applications such as logic and memory devices, achieving higher integration density and lower power consumption. The use of graphene as electrodes in memristors could also increase robustness against degradation mechanisms, including oxygen vacancy diffusion to the electrode and unwanted metal ion diffusion.

Article Synopsis
  • Child sexual abuse affects a significant percentage of children globally, with 8%-31% of girls and 3%-17% of boys impacted, prompting the need for effective prevention strategies.
  • A systematic review of studies on community interventions aimed at preventing this abuse concluded that while there is promising economic evidence for current tertiary interventions, more focus is needed on primary and secondary prevention methods.
  • Out of 5,180 articles screened, only 17 were included in the final analysis, primarily addressing cost-effectiveness in the U.S., indicating a gap in comprehensive prevention research for at-risk populations.

Little is known about whether clinical, radiological or neuropathological features are associated with cognitive impairment before intracerebral haemorrhage. We conducted a community-based cohort study of 125 adults with intracerebral haemorrhage (lobar = 71, non-lobar = 54) with consent to brain autopsy. We compared small vessel disease biomarkers on diagnostic CT head and neuropathological findings including neurofibrillary tangles and amyloid plaques in adults without cognitive impairment versus cognitive impairment without dementia versus dementia before intracerebral haemorrhage, stratified by lobar and non-lobar intracerebral haemorrhage.

A partner's reproductive coercion and abuse (RCA) can significantly undermine women's physical health and psychological wellbeing. Yet little research has explored how RCA affects experiences of mothering and relationships with children. Based on an analysis of interviews with 30 Australian mothers, we found that RCA affected mothering in complex ways.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at how much the endothelial cells in eye tissues were lost after being stored for 1 and 5 days using a special transport system.
  • The researchers used different inks to mark the tissues, but the loss of cells was pretty similar no matter which ink was used.
  • In the end, the tissues were still in good condition for eye surgery, showing that the storage method worked well.

Background: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is common globally, but there is a lack of research on how to intervene early with men who might be using IPV. Building on evidence supporting the benefits of online interventions for women victim/survivors, this study aims to test whether a healthy relationship website (BETTER MAN) is effective at improving men's help seeking, their recognition of behaviours as IPV and their readiness to change their behaviours.

Methods/design: In this two-group, pragmatic randomised controlled trial, men aged 18-50 years residing in Australia who have been in an adult intimate relationship (female, male or non-binary partner) in the past 12 months are eligible.

Background: Personal recovery is of particular value in bipolar disorder, where symptoms often persist despite treatment. We previously defined the POETIC (Purpose and Meaning, Optimism and Hope, Empowerment, Tensions, Identity, Connectedness) framework for personal recovery in bipolar disorder. So far, personal recovery has only been studied in researcher-constructed environments (eg, interviews and focus groups).

Policymakers are increasingly calling on victim-survivors of child sexual abuse to consult on prevention initiatives, including perpetration-focused prevention efforts like Stop it Now! However, very little is known about the perspectives of victim-survivors on perpetration-focused prevention and whether they support such initiatives. This study was informed by the research question: How do victim-survivors of child sexual abuse perceive perpetration-focused prevention, including the Stop it Now! program? Sixteen Australian victim-survivors participated in an individual, one-hour interview and the data were analysed according to thematic analysis. Four themes emerged through the data analysis: Core of repulsion; Doubt and dismissal; Conditions for congruence; and Arriving at acceptability.

A programme of asymptomatic swabbing was piloted in 2021/2022 in England to further understand the risk of human infection with avian influenza in exposed individuals and to evaluate this surveillance approach as a public health measure. There were challenges in deploying this pilot that will need to be addressed for future seasons. However, there was one detection of avian influenza A(H5N1) in a human despite low uptake in eligible exposed persons.

Base editors are recent multiplex gene editing tools derived from the Cas9 nuclease of . They can target and modify a single nucleotide in the genome without inducing double-strand breaks (DSB) of the DNA helix. As such, they hold great potential for the engineering of microbes that lack effective DSB repair pathways such as homologous recombination (HR) or non-homologous end-joining (NHEJ).
