Trends in Retraction of Orthopaedic Research Articles.

Background: Despite the use of in-depth peer-review processes, there occasionally are issues with published manuscripts that require retraction. The purpose of the present study was to explore the reasons for the retraction of orthopaedic research articles, with consideration of the journal impact factor and the orthopaedic subspecialty.

Methods: In 2023, a database search was conducted for retracted papers written in the English language in the orthopaedic literature.

"Do No Harm?" Moral Distress Among Medical Students During the Surgical Clerkship.

Objectives: Moral distress, reported among healthcare workers across a variety of settings, is associated with negative mental health consequences, burnout, and intention to leave a position. The scant literature exploring medical students' moral distress does not specifically examine moral distress during the surgical clerkship nor does it characterize the type of moral distress experienced by medical students. Thus, we aimed to explore and characterize medical students' moral distress during the surgical clerkship.

Fertile Hybrids Could Aid Coral Adaptation.

Fertile hybrids can enhance the adaptive capacity and resilience of species under stress by increasing genetic diversity within populations, masking the effects of deleterious recessive alleles, and facilitating the introgression of beneficial genetic variants into parental species. However, many hybrids are infertile. We compared the fertility of aquarium-reared F1 hybrid and purebred corals of the species and and examined the viability of early life stages of second-generation (F2) hybrid and back-crossed planula larvae and recruits.

Marine heatwaves are becoming more frequent during summer and pose a significant threat to coral reef ecosystems. Onsite wastewater systems (OWSs) can be significant sources of nutrients and E. coli to water resources, potentially resulting in water quality degradation especially during times of malfunction. An OWS is considered malfunctioning when septic tank effluent is discharged into drainfield trenches during periods when there is insufficient separation to groundwater (<30 cm), when wastewater upwells to the surface, or when backup of wastewater into the tank or home occurs.

A comprehensive review of current treatment modalities for leptomeningeal carcinomatosis in breast cancer.

Leptomeningeal carcinomatosis (LC) is a metastatic complication of breast cancer that imparts a very poor prognosis and distressing neurologic symptoms in affected patients. While the incidence of LC has risen with improving survival rates for cancer patients, there remains no established treatment protocol for LC and clinical trial data comparing available therapies is limited. Here, a comprehensive literature search of the pubmed and Cochrane databases was performed.

In vitro fertilisation can be used to increase the frequency of hybridisation among corals, potentially enhancing their ability to adapt to climate change. Here, we assessed the field performance of hybrids derived from the highly cross-fertile coral species Acropora sarmentosa and Acropora florida from the Great Barrier Reef.

Background And Objectives: Conversations about dignity are fundamental to person-centered care in pediatrics, yet practical language strategies to promote and support dignity remain understudied. To address this gap, we aimed to identify and characterize language used by pediatric oncologists to recognize and affirm dignity across advancing illness.

Methods: In this longitudinal prospective study, we audio-recorded serial disease reevaluation encounters between pediatric oncologists, children with cancer, and families across 24 months or until the child's death.

Saline mine water influences eukaryote life in shallow groundwater of a tropical sandy stream.

Eukaryotic communities in groundwater may be particularly sensitive to disturbance because they are adapted to stable environmental conditions and often have narrow spatial distributions. Traditional methods for characterising these communities, focussing on groundwater-inhabiting macro- and meiofauna (stygofauna), are challenging because of limited taxonomic knowledge and expertise (particularly in less-explored regions), and the time and expense of morphological identification. A Pilot Study of the Combination of Entinostat with Capecitabine in Advanced Breast Cancer.

Background: Breast cancer has an unacceptably high recurrence rate when any residual disease is found following neoadjuvant treatment of high-risk disease. Based on clinical data suggesting an adjuvant role for epigenetic modifying agents in breast cancer and preclinical data suggesting synergistic activity of entinostat combined with capecitabine, we conducted a phase I, open-label study of these agents in metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Virtual Interprofessional Education: Lessons Learned.

Introduction: Several universities modified interprofessional education (IPE) to a virtual format, showing similar outcomes as IPE delivered through an in-person format. This study aimed to describe perceptions of 106 students from programs in occupational therapy, dietetics, nursing, athletic training, and speech-language pathology (SLP) following an established IPE activity in a virtual format. This information will add to previous literature through inclusion of 5 healthcare programs as well as identifying attitudes from each discipline.

Obesity is a growing global health concern, leading to various health issues, including diabetes. Semaglutide-based medications, such as Ozempic, Wegovy, and Rybelsus, have emerged as potential treatments.
