Excision of the mass and pathologic evaluation resulted in multidisciplinary involvement and evaluation. In this example, the mass was found to be either an unusual schwannoma that happens to be psammoma body-rich or an unusual psammomatous melanocytic schwannoma that deviates from conventional examples, as a diagnostic consensus was unable to be reached.

We investigated this question with a scientific mass collaboration using the common task method; 160 teams built predictive models for six life outcomes using data from the Fragile Families and Child Wellbeing Study, a high-quality birth cohort study. Despite using a rich dataset and applying machine-learning methods optimized for prediction, the best predictions were not very accurate and were only slightly better than those from a simple benchmark model. Within each outcome, prediction error was strongly associated with the family being predicted and weakly associated with the technique used to generate the prediction.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: Our aim was to explore clinical parameters that might predict the absence of cerebrovascular autoregulation (CAR) assessed by a negative relationship between mean arterial blood pressure (MABP) and fractional tissue oxygen extraction (FTOE) as measured by near-infared spectroscopy (NIRS) in preterm infants.
Methods: We included preterm infants (gestational age (GA) <32 weeks). Within 72 h after birth, we recorded the infants' NIRS parameters and MABP for a 24-h period.
Patients with chronic kidney disease have less than expected decline in blood pressure during sleep (nondipping) and commonly experience the vexing symptom of nocturia. To better understand the relationship among nocturia, nighttime physical activity, and nondipping, we studied 98 patients with chronic kidney disease on 2 occasions, 1 month apart, with 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring and simultaneous activity monitoring with wrist actigraphy. Patients with nocturia had greater actigraphically recorded nighttime physical activity compared to those with no nocturia.
