Background: Despite its many advantages, the deep inferior epigastric artery perforator flap requires fascial incision and intramuscular dissection, which can lead to pain and weakening of the abdominal wall. The superficial inferior epigastric artery (SIEA) flap offers an alternative to avoid this damage but is often considered unreliable due to its variable anatomy. In this study, we report our experience in autologous breast reconstruction using either the superficial branch of the superficial circumflex iliac artery (SCIA-SB) or the SIEA as the sole flap pedicle.

Different Frequency and Clinical Role for MTAP Loss in Pleural and Peritoneal Mesothelioma.

The objective of this study was to analyze the expression and prognostic role of methylthioadenosine phosphorylase (MTAP) in mesothelioma. MTAP protein expression by immunohistochemistry was analyzed in 113 mesotheliomas (60 pleural and 53 peritoneal), consisting of 36 effusions and 77 surgical specimens. MTAP expression was fully lost in 38 tumors and partially lost in 8 tumors.

This dataset covers national and subnational non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPI) to combat the COVID-19 pandemic in the Americas. Prior to the development of a vaccine, NPI were governments' primary tools to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Variation in subnational responses to COVID-19 is high and is salient for health outcomes.

Complications arising from aesthetic surgery procedures in foreign countries and Switzerland.

Background: Cosmetic surgery tourism has increased in popularity in recent years, with arising complications and post-operative follow-up care often managed in the client's home country, thereby burdening the Swiss health care system.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed patients with complications after cosmetic surgeries abroad and in Switzerland who were treated at the University Hospital Zurich between 2015 and 2019. Data were collected from medical records and reviewed for patient characteristics, procedures, complications, and treatment modalities.

We have explored the use of computational enzyme redesign to change the enantioselectivity of a highly thermostable alcohol dehydrogenase from Thermus thermophilus in the asymmetric reduction of ketones. Disclosing Individual Results in Dementia Research: A Proposed Study Participant's Bill of Rights.

This Study Participant's Bill of Rights is a call to action for researchers in Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) to proactively design clinical studies that provide the option for research participants to learn their individual research results if they choose, and in a manner that ensures study integrity. This Bill of Rights was crafted by a committee of study participants, care partners, representatives of dementia advocacy organizations, and other stakeholders in dementia research for the Advisory Group on Risk Education for Dementia (AGREEDementia). The framework developed by the Multi-Regional Clinical Trials (MRCT) Return of Individual Research Results provides a useful context for researchers to plan their studies and disclosure.

In situ spatiotemporal solute imaging of metal corrosion on the example of magnesium.

Visualization and quantification of corrosion processes is essential in materials research. Here we present a new approach for 2D spatiotemporal imaging of metal corrosion dynamics in situ. The approach combines time-integrated Mg flux imaging by diffusive gradients in thin films laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (DGT LA-ICP-MS) and near real-time pH imaging by planar optodes.

Histopathologic Characterization and Neurodegenerative Markers in Patients With Limbic Encephalitis Undergoing Epilepsy Surgery.

Purpose: Limbic encephalitis is an increasingly recognized cause of medial temporal lobe epilepsy (mTLE) and associated cognitive deficits, potentially resulting in hippocampal sclerosis (HS). For several reasons, these patients usually do not undergo epilepsy surgery. Thus, histopathologic examinations in surgical specimens of clearly diagnosed limbic encephalitis are scarce.

Prevalence and haemodynamic profiles of pulmonary hypertension in cardiac amyloidosis.

Objectives: While cardiac amyloidosis (CA) classically involves the left ventricle (LV), less is known about its impact on the right ventricle (RV) and pulmonary vasculature. We performed a retrospective analysis to identify the prevalence and types of pulmonary hypertension (PH) profiles in CA and to determine haemodynamic and cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) predictors of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE).

Introduction: The dementia experience is not a monolithic phenomenon-and while core elements of dementia are considered universal-people living with dementia experience the disorder differently. Understanding the patterning of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) in the population with regards to incidence, risk factors, impacts on dementia care, and economic costs associated with ADRD can provide clues to target risk and protective factors for all populations as well as addressing health disparities.

A partisan pandemic: state government public health policies to combat COVID-19 in Brazil.

Introduction: To present an analysis of the Brazilian health system and subnational (state) variation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, based on 10 non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs).

Materials And Methods: We collected daily information on implementation of 10 NPI designed to inform the public of health risks and promote distancing and mask use at the national level for eight countries across the Americas. We then analyse the adoption of the 10 policies across Brazil's 27 states over time, individually and using a composite index.

Evaluation of pharmacists' awareness of illegal online pharmacies and perceived impact on safe access to medicines.

Background: An estimated 95% of all online pharmacies operate unlawfully. Illegal online pharmacies distribute substandard and falsified medical products that may result in patient harm and suboptimal treatment, leading to an overall mistrust of medications, healthcare providers, and health systems. As medication experts, pharmacists are trusted to guide patients in selection of safe and effective medication therapy.

Expression and Cell Type-specific Localization of Inflammasome Sensors in the Spinal Cord of SOD1 Mice and Sporadic Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis Patients.

Inflammasomes are key components of the innate immune system and activation of these multiprotein platforms is a crucial event in the etiopathology of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Inflammasomes consist of a pattern recognition receptor (PRR), the adaptor protein apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD (ASC) and caspase 1. Exogenous or endogenous "danger signals" can trigger inflammasome assembly and promote maturation and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin 1β.

Background: Individual radiosensitivity is influencing the outcome of radiation therapy. A general ex vivo testing is very work-intensive. It is of interest to see if a significant prediction concerning the sensitivity can be made by in vivo irradiation during radiation treatment.

Contributions of Persons Living With Dementia to Scientific Research Meetings. Results From the National Research Summit on Care, Services, and Supports for Persons With Dementia and Their Caregivers.

Objective: Inclusion of patients in research activities has increased in the United States but no guidelines for inclusion of individuals with cognitive impairment exist. The experiences from the Persons Living with Dementia (PLWD) Stakeholder Group that formed to support the first National Research Summit on Care, Services, and Supports for Persons with Dementia and Their Caregivers provided a test of feasibility of this type of participation for a major research meeting and an opportunity to understand specific contributions of the Group.

Methods: The PLWD Stakeholder Group was formed by Summit co-chairs as one of six stakeholder groups charged with providing input into the Summit agenda and meeting recommendations.
