- Vitamin D is important not just for bone health, but also for regulating the immune system, blood pressure, diabetes, and heart diseases, with its effects mediated through binding to the vitamin D receptor (VDR).
- This study specifically examined the role of two genetic variations (SNPs rs2228570 and rs7975232) of the VDR in relation to cardiometabolic disorders among the Pakistani population, involving 400 patients and 226 healthy controls.
- Findings showed that the GG and AG genotypes of the rs2228570 polymorphism significantly increased the risk of hypertension in cardiovascular patients, while the rs7975232 polymorphism did not show any correlation with these conditions.

Diabetes mellitus is a complex metabolic disorder which disrupts normal physiological functions of the body cells to take in and utilise glucose effectively. On the other hand, blood glycaemic control remains the primary therapeutic target for diabetic patients. Dietary starch is the main determinant of blood glucose.
