Recent research indicates a concerning rise in both smoking and mental health disorders, specifically depression, among adolescents, prompting a review of the relationship between these factors.
A comprehensive literature search resulted in 122 relevant studies focused solely on smoking and depression in adolescents, out of an initial 2,738 articles reviewed.
The current data does not establish a clear cause-and-effect relationship; instead, it points to potential confounding factors and issues in study designs, suggesting the need for future research to clarify the causal link.
