Introduction: sarcopenia is characterized by loss of muscle mass and function. Spinal disorders are a risk factor for muscle deterioration. In turn, sarcopenia is associated with adverse outcomes in the postoperative period of spinal surgery.

Care of patients on home parenteral nutrition during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic: Management of central line-associated bloodstream infections.

Background And Aim: The aim of this study was to analyze central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) in home parenteral nutrition (HPN) patients assisted by an interdisciplinary team during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic in Argentina.

Methods: Longitudinal, retrospective and analytical study of patients on HPN for ≥90 days during 2020. Data collection included age (adults >18 years, pediatric ≤18 years), gender, diagnosis, type of catheter, number of lumens, venous access, days on HPN, infusion modality and number of CLABSI-associated events.

[Clinical guidelines for the managment of intestinal failure secondary to pediatric short bowel syndrome].

Intestinal failure secondary to short bowel syndrome in pediatrics, is a rare condition with high morbimortality. A follow up multidisciplinary team is necessary to minimize complications and optimize the intestinal rehabilitation. There are no gold standard guidelines for the management of this group of complex patients.

[Treatment of refractory epilepsy. A comparison between classic ketogenic diet and modified Atkins diet in terms of efficacy, adherence, and undesirable effects].

Background: the ketogenic diet (CD) is an established, effective non-pharmacological treatment for refractory epilepsy in childhood. Aim: the objective of this study was to compare the efficacy, the presence of undesirable effects, and adherence between the classic ketogenic diet (DCC) and the modified Atkins diet (DAM). Materials and methods: a retrospective and comparative investigation was carried out to evaluate the medical records of all the patients who started treatment with a ketogenic diet by the same team between 2008 and 2018.

[Field testing of new WHO growth standards: assessment of anthropometric outcomes of children from 0 to 5 years from Rosario city, Argentina].

Introduction: The field testing of the preliminary WHO child growth standards was conducted in Rosario, Argentina. The objective of the article is to analyze the anthropometrical outcomes based on the national and international growth references. POPULATION, MATERIALS AND METHODS: Descriptive, cross-sectional study.
