Background And Aims: Experience in the region shows that in some countries there is very good surveillance of Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in health services, but there is no national data consistently in all countries. Therefore, we set to estimate the total burden of HAIs and antimicrobial use in acute care hospitals in Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, and Colombia using the one-day point prevalence methodology.
Methods: The survey was conducted between June and July 2016.
Background: The need for antimicrobial therapies effective against multidrug resistant organisms for children remains unmet. Tigecycline shows antibacterial activity across a broad spectrum of bacteria and is approved for treating complicated skin and skin-structure infections, complicated intra-abdominal infections and, in the United States, community-acquired bacterial pneumonia for adult patients. No blinded, randomized phase 3 tigecycline clinical trials on neonates or children have been completed or planned.

Methods: A model to estimate economic and health consequences of parecoxib 40 mg and morphine 12 mg regarding ketorolac 30 mg, on the management of postoperative pain in gynecologic laparotomy surgery from the perspective of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) was developed. A systematic review to identify the proportion of patients that rated their analgesic treatment as "excellent" or "good" in the Patient Global Evaluation of Study Medication, 12 hours after administration of the analgesic (responders), was performed.
The diagnosis of candidemia by blood culture has poor sensitivity; therefore, immunossupresed patients and those with risk factors may receive empirical antifungal therapy, wich is potentially toxic. Fluorescent tests have been developed to obtain an early and more sensitive diagnosis than blood culture. The aim of this study was to compare indirect immunofluorescence vs direct calcofluor white fluorescence in buffy coat for candidemia diagnosis.
