In this paper, a type of N-doped carbon nanotube-coated NiZnC metal nanoparticle heterostructure catalyst (NZC-C-700) was prepared by two-step roasting method and applied to depredate bisphenol A (BPA) with peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation. Characterizations and first principles calculation (DFT) reveal that the heterostructure formed by the graphite carbon layer and NiZnC metal nanoparticles, coupled with various N doping, can effectively modulate surface charge distribution, which could improve charge transfer capability between the catalyst and PMS. Meanwhile, the results of quenching experiments, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and chronoamperometry proposed that the system is a typical singlet oxygen (O) -dominated non-radical pathway.

In this work, waste herb senna obtusifolia was utilized as the biochar precursor, and a N-doped biochar (NSOBC-6) was prepared to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for degrading Naproxen (NPX). NSOBC-6 exhibited superior catalytic performance in activating PMS, which could degrade NPX completely within 60 min. The NSOBC-6/PMS system also had good reusability and effectiveness under a wide range of pH values and high salinity conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • A sludge biochar modified with citric acid (CA-SBC-300) was developed, showing the ability to effectively activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for the degradation of the drug naproxen (NPX), achieving a 95.5% reduction in just 10 minutes.
  • The modified sludge biochar demonstrated robustness against factors like inorganic anions, humic acid, and varying pH levels, indicating its potential for practical application.
  • Analysis techniques confirmed that the increased oxygenated functional groups and specific active sites on CA-SBC-300 significantly contributed to its improved catalytic performance for treating toxic organic contaminants in wastewater.

Investigating the effects of g-CN-based photocatalysts on experimental parameters during tetracycline (TC) degradation can be helpful in discovering the optimal parameter combinations to improve the degradation efficiencies in general. Machine learning methods can avoid the problems of high cost, time-consuming and possible instrumental errors in experimental methods, which have been proven to be an effective alternative for evaluating the entire experimental process. Eight typical machine learning models were explored for their effectiveness in predicting the TC degradation efficiencies of g-CN based photocatalysts.

In this study, Congo red (CR) was degraded by different particle sizes of zero-valent copper (ZVC) activated persulfate (PS) under mild temperature. The CR removal by 50 nm, 500 nm, 15 μm of ZVC activated PS was 97%, 72%, and 16%, respectively. The co-existence of SO and Cl promoted the degradation of CR, and HCO and HPO were detrimental to the degradation.

Sludge biochar (SBC) modified by humic acid (HA) was used to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for degrading naproxen (NPX). HA-modified biochar (SBC-50HA) boosted the catalytic performance of SBC for PMS activation. The SBC-50HA/PMS system had good reusability and structural stability, and was unaffected by complex water bodies.

The dynamic uncertain relationship among each brain region is a necessary factor that limits EEG-based emotion recognition. It is a thought-provoking problem to availably employ time-varying spatial and temporal characteristics from multi-channel electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. Although deep learning has made remarkable achievements in emotion recognition, the biological topological information among brain regions does not fully exploit, which is vital for EEG-based emotion recognition.

Although the effect of pearl powder has been recognized for more than a thousand years from healthcare to beauty care, there has yet to be an in-depth understanding of its anti-photoaging effect. In the present study, the protective effect of pearl extract (PE) on UV-induced photoaging in mice was evaluated. First, the amino acid analysis of PE was carried out.

: Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is one of the most common psychiatric disorders associated with substantial dysfunction and socioeconomic burden. Pharmacotherapy is the first choice for GAD. Remission [Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAM-A) score ≤7] is regarded as a crucial treatment goal for patients with GAD.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates early predictors for the recurrence and spread of rectal cancer after surgery, utilizing data from 400 patients operated on between September 2013 and September 2014.
  • Key findings indicate that factors like tumor size on preoperative CT scans, lymphocyte-to-neutrophil ratio, and CEA levels are significant biomarkers for assessing the risk of recurrence or metastasis.
  • A nomogram model developed from these predictors showed a high accuracy (AUC of 0.939) for forecasting post-operative outcomes, emphasizing the utility of these biomarkers in clinical assessments.

Pelvic tumors can be both complicated and challenging, and computed tomography (CT) has played an important role in the diagnosis and treatment planning of these conditions. Cinematic rendering (CR) is a new method of 3D imaging using CT volumetric data. Unlike traditional 3D methods, CR uses the global illumination model to produce high-definition surface details and shadow effects to generate photorealistic images.
