Aims: We aimed to assess changes in the burden of diabetes in the Western Pacific region (WPR) between 1990 and 2019, project future trends for 2020-2044, and identify the factors influencing these trends.

Materials And Methods: Data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 were used to calculate the age-standardised incidence rate (ASIR), age-standardised death rate (ASDR) and age-standardised disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) rate for diabetes in the region. The Nordpred model was used to predict diabetes-related ASIR and ASDR trends over the next 25 years, and an age-period-cohort (APC) model analysed the effects of age, period and cohort.

Background: The global burden of type 2 diabetes has significantly increased, leading to a considerable impact on healthcare systems worldwide. While the advent of mobile healthcare has provided some relief by addressing the shortage of certain medical resources, its adoption among the Chinese population remains relatively low. To extend the benefits of mHealth to a greater number of Chinese diabetic patients, it is essential to investigate the factors that influence their willingness to utilize it and implement targeted interventions based on these influencing factors.

Self-powered humidity sensors with high response and good stability have attracted extensive interest in environmental monitoring, medical and health care, and sentiment detection. Because of its high specific surface area and good conductivity, two-dimensional material has wide application in the field of humidity sensing. In this work, we proposed a novel self-powered high-performance TaS/CuS heterostructure-based humidity sensor driven by a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) made with the same structure.

Objective: Middle-aged and older adults are more likely to suffer from chronic diseases because of their particular health characteristics, which lead to a high incidence of catastrophic health expenditure (CHE). This study plans to analyse the different factors affecting CHE in middle-aged and older adults with chronic diseases, target the vulnerable characteristics, and suggest groups that medical insurance policies should pay more attention to.

Methods: The data used in this study came from the 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) database.

Comprehensive Transcriptome Analysis of mRNA Expression Patterns Associated With Enhanced Biological Functions in Periodontal Ligament Stem Cells Subjected to Short-Term Hypoxia Pretreatment.

Short-term hypoxia pretreatment significantly enhances periodontal ligament stem cell (PDLSC)-based periodontal tissue regeneration by improving various cellular biological functions, but the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, based on RNA sequencing (RNA-seq), we comprehensively analyzed the possible regulatory mechanisms of the short-term hypoxic effects on the biological functions of healthy and inflammatory PDLSCs. A total of 134 and 164 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified under healthy and inflammatory conditions, respectively.

Clinical significance of SIRT3 and inflammatory factors in multiple myeloma patients with bortezomib-induced peripheral neuropathy: a cohort study.

The present study aimed to investigate the role of SIRT3 and inflammatory factors in bortezomib-induced peripheral neuropathy (PN). This prospective observational cohort study included a total of 159 patients of multiple myeloma patients during June 2016 to June 2019. All patients received the strategy of bortezomib and dexamethasone and were further divided into the PN group and the non-PN group.

Laparoscopic repair of giant hiatal hernia for elderly patients.

Background: Giant hiatal hernias are more common in older patients and can significantly reduce their quality of life. However, open surgery for patients of advanced age is thought to be associated with high morbidity and mortality. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the safety of laparoscopic giant hiatal hernia repair for elderly patients as compared to younger patients.

Preperitoneal herniation as a complication of tansabdominal preperitoneal patch plasty: a report of two cases.

Background: Preperitoneal herniation is a rare complication after transabdominal preperitoneal patch plasty (TAPP) and may be caused by inadequate peritoneal closure. We herein report two cases of postoperative small bowel obstruction due to preperitoneal herniation through a disrupted peritoneum.

Case Presentation: Two men in their 70s were admitted to our center because of small bowel obstruction after TAPP.

Background: Laparoscopic paraesophageal hernia repair is associated with higher recurrence rate. Mesh is used to reduce the recurrence rate. This retrospective study is to review our experience of biological mesh fixed with suture and medical glue in hiatal hernias repairs.

Clinical presentation and outcomes of solitary plasmacytoma in a tertiary hospital in the UK.

Solitary plasmacytoma is a rare localised neoplasm of monoclonal plasma cells. The standard treatment involves radical radiotherapy; however, a significant proportion of patients subsequently develop multiple myeloma. In this study, we evaluate the outcomes of solitary plasmacytoma in a retrospective cohort of patients treated in a single tertiary centre.

Organ at risk delineation for radiation therapy clinical trials: Global Harmonization Group consensus guidelines.

Background And Purpose: The Global Quality Assurance of Radiation Therapy Clinical Trials Harmonization Group (GHG) is a collaborative group of Radiation Therapy Quality Assurance (RTQA) Groups harmonizing and improving RTQA for multi-institutional clinical trials. The objective of the GHG OAR Working Group was to unify OAR contouring guidance across RTQA groups by compiling a single reference list of OARs in line with AAPM TG 263 and ASTRO, together with peer-reviewed, anatomically defined contouring guidance for integration into clinical trial protocols independent of the radiation therapy delivery technique.

Materials And Methods: The GHG OAR Working Group comprised of 22 multi-professional members from 6 international RTQA Groups and affiliated organizations conducted the work in 3 stages: (1) Clinical trial documentation review and identification of structures of interest (2) Review of existing contouring guidance and survey of proposed OAR contouring guidance (3) Review of survey feedback with recommendations for contouring guidance with standardized OAR nomenclature.
