Importance: The use of real-world data (RWD) external control arms in prospective studies is increasing. The advantages, including the immediate availability of a control population, must be balanced with the requirements of meeting evidentiary standards.
Objective: To address the question of whether and to what extent the methods of RWD studies compare to standard methods used in randomized clinical trials.
This study aims to investigate the underlying neurobiological mechanisms that regulate natural reward seeking behaviors, specifically in the context of sexual behavior and sucrose self-administration. The role of CaMKIIa+ neurons in the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST) was explored using chemogenetic silencing and -stimulation. Additionally, the study examined how these effects interacted with the internal state of the animals.

The general public, patients, and healthcare professionals are often unaware of palliative care's benefits. Poor interdisciplinary teamwork and limited communication combined with a lack of early identification of patients with palliative care needs contribute to sub-optimal palliative care provision.

To provide a better understanding of the structure and patterns of copulation, it is necessary to extend and tailor the analysis to the natural organization of male rat copulation. This will lead to better formulation of hypotheses about neurobiological underpinnings of behavior.

Method: description of three cases taken out of a larger retrospective case-based study of prayer healing in the Netherlands. In this larger study multiple reported healings were investigated using both medical files and patients' narratives through in-depth interviews.
Importance: Although the number of treatments for elderly patients with non-transplant-eligible (NTE) multiple myeloma (MM) has increased substantially, evidence is lacking on the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of novel treatment sequences.
Objective: To determine the optimal sequence of treatment for patients with NTE MM from the perspective of the patient, physician, and society.
Design, Setting, And Participants: Using data from a Dutch observational registry, this economic evaluation combined evidence from network meta-analyses in a patient-level simulation model and modeled time-to-event and types of events from a hospital perspective with a lifetime horizon.
The medial amygdala (MeA) is a sexually dimorphic brain region that integrates sensory information and hormonal signaling, and is involved in the regulation of social behaviors. Lesion studies have shown a role for the MeA in copulation, most prominently in the promotion of ejaculation. The role of the MeA in sexual motivation, but also in temporal patterning of copulation, has not been extensively studied in rats.

In female rats, oestradiol mediates spine plasticity in hypothalamic and limbic brain structures, contributing to long-lasting effects on motivated behaviour. Parallel effects of androgens in male rats have not been extensively studied.

Patients did not dare to go to their general practitioner, general practitioners were reticent about hospital referrals, and diagnostic and treatment trajectories were delayed or adapted. This also concerned cancer patients.

This study was undertaken to confirm these results in a population-based setting, with special emphasis on the value of 6xR-CHOP21 among patients aged 18-64 years. Two thousand three hundred and thirty-eight stage II-IV DLBCL patients, ≥18 years, we confirmed the similar efficacy of six versus eight cycles of R-CHOP and of R-CHOP21 versus R-CHOP14 regimens across all age groups on overall survival (median follow-up 36.

Serotonin plays an important role in adult female sexual behavior, however little is known about the influence of serotonin during early development on sexual functioning in adulthood. During early development, serotonin acts as neurotrophic factor, while it functions as a modulatory neurotransmitter in adulthood. The occurrence of serotonin release, could thus have different effects on behavioral outcomes, depending on the developmental period in which serotonin is released.

We generated a prediction model estimating the conditional extra mortality risk of breast cancer patients in the Netherlands. This model can be used by life insurers to accurately estimate the additional risk of an individual patient, conditional on the years survived.

Efforts to define age-specific (supportive) care needs and targets for intervention in these areas are evolving. This review discusses the psychosocial issues AYAs with hematologic malignancies are dealing with, how these might affect their health-related quality of life, and the challenges in delivering high-quality supportive care to this underserved population.

Using the wrong model can result in false interpretation of the results. In this review we will discuss the animal models used to study sexual behavior, with a focus on rats.

Methods: MDS cases were retrieved from the nationwide Netherlands Cancer Registry (N=9159; period 2001-2014) and the regional PHAROS MDS registry (N=676; period 2008-2011).
Objective: To optimize personalized medicine for patients with hematological malignancies (HM), we find that knowledge on patient preferences with regard to information provision and shared decision-making (SDM) is of the utmost importance. The aim of this study was to investigate the SDM preference and the satisfaction with and need for information among newly diagnosed HM patients and their informal caregivers, in relation to sociodemographic and clinical factors, cognitive coping style, and health related quality of life.
Methods: Newly diagnosed patients and their caregivers were asked to complete the Hematology Information Needs Questionnaire, the Information Satisfaction Questionnaire, and the Threatening Medical Situations Inventory.
Background: Systematic evaluation and validation of new prognostic and predictive markers, technologies and interventions for colorectal cancer (CRC) is crucial for optimizing patients' outcomes. With only 5-15% of patients participating in clinical trials, generalizability of results is poor. Moreover, current trials often lack the capacity for post-hoc subgroup analyses.

Although many patients report problems, relatively few patients report a need for additional professional care after treatment. We aimed to gain insight into the factors underlying this discrepancy by exploring patients' needs and help-seeking behaviour in relation to their experienced symptoms and problems.

Stepped care treatment, in which patients start with the least intensive treatment most likely to work and only receive more intensive interventions if needed, could improve distress. We aimed to evaluate the outcome of stepped care treatment on psychological distress and physical functioning in patients treated with autologous stem cell transplantation for hematological malignancies.

Methods: HRQoL was measured by the EORTC QLQ-C30 including the CLL16 module, EQ-5D, and VAS in an observational study over multiple years. All HRQoL measurements per patient were connected and analysed using area under the curve analysis over the entire study duration.
Large, comprehensive population-based studies in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) are scarce. We conducted a nationwide population-based study on treatment, trial participation and survival among all adult patients diagnosed with AML (n=12,032) and acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL; n=585) in the Netherlands between 1989-2012. Patients were categorized into four periods and four age groups (18-40, 41-60, 61-70 and >70 years).

Also, we calculate cost-effectiveness of treatment sequences commonly prescribed to predict effects and costs if patients had received a different treatment sequence.
Methods: Real-world data including patient and disease characteristics, treatment information and resource use were collected from 1054 elderly patients with MM.
Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) may be underreported in cancer registries such as the Netherlands Cancer Registry (NCR). Analysis of Dutch medical claims can complement NCR data on MDS and CMML. We analyzed data on 3681 MDS patients and 235 CMML patients aged ≥18 years with initial claims for MDS or CMML from the Dutch nationwide medical claims-based Diagnosis Treatment Combination Information System (DIS) between 2008 and 2010.
