Graphene transistor sensors, with advantages such as facile surface functionalization and high sensitivity, have gained extensive research interest in gas detection applications. This study fabricated back-gated graphene transistors and employed a hydroxylation scheme for the surface functionalization of graphene. On the basis of the interaction mechanisms between gas molecules and graphene's electrical properties, a compact electrical kinetics model considering the gas-solid surface reaction of graphene transistors is proposed.

Our study investigated the causal relationship between immune cells, metabolites, and epilepsy using two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) and mediation MR analysis of 731 immune cell traits and 1400 metabolites. Our core methodology centered on inverse-variance weighted MR, supplemented by other methods. This approach was crucial in clarifying the potential intermediary functions of metabolites in the genetic links between traits of immune cells and epilepsy.

Article Synopsis
  • Dingxian Pill (DXP) is a traditional Chinese medicine known for its therapeutic effects on epilepsy ("Xianzheng") but its anti-epileptic mechanisms are not fully understood.
  • The study aims to clarify how DXP affects neuronal loss and damage in epilepsy via the TNF-α/TNFR1 signaling pathway.
  • In a study with Kunming mice, DXP showed significant improvements in neuronal health, reduced apoptosis, and downregulated key proteins associated with cell death when compared to a control group, highlighting its potential as an anti-epileptic treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • As people get older, a decrease in ATP can weaken important processes in the body, which may cause iron to build up in the brain and lead to Alzheimer's disease.
  • The study aims to find out if a special peptide called J bs-5YP can help fix the problems with iron in the brain and prevent Alzheimer's.
  • When the peptide was given to older mice, it helped improve their brain function by lowering iron levels and protecting their neurons, showing that it might be a good treatment for dementia.

Migraine is a common neurological disorder that affects more than one billion people worldwide. Recent genome-wide association studies have identified 123 genetic loci associated with migraine risk. However, the biological mechanisms underlying migraine and its relationships with other complex diseases remain unclear.

Background: The feasibility and clinical outcome predictors of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) for strokes caused by distal arterial occlusion (DAO) remain the subject of debate.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted of patients with consecutive acute ischemic stroke treated using MT. Clinical and procedural-associated factors were studied to compare the efficacy, safety, and short-term and long-term outcomes of MT between the proximal arterial occlusion (PAO) and DAO groups.

Calystegia hederacea (Convolvulaceae) is one of the most problematic perennial weeds widely distributed around or in crop fields. Our previous studies showed that C. hederacea is natural reservoir of sweet potato chlorotic stunt virus isolate CH (SPCSV-CH) and sweet potato latent virus (SPLV) (Liu et al.

Two new RNA viruses were identified in Ageratum conyzoides in China using high-throughput sequencing, and their genome sequences were determined using PCR and rapid amplification of cDNA ends. The new viruses, which have positive-sense, single-stranded RNA genomes, were provisionally named "ageratum virus 1" (AgV1) and "ageratum virus 2" (AgV2). AgV1 has a genome of 3,526 nucleotides with three open reading frames (ORFs) and shares 49.

Iron accumulates in the brain with age and catalyzes free radical damage to neurons, thus playing a pathogenic role in Alzheimer's disease (AD). To decrease the incidence of AD, we synthesized the iron-affinitive peptide 5YHEDA to scavenge the excess iron in the senile brain. However, the blood-brain barrier (BBB) blocks the entrance of macromolecules into the brain, thus decreasing the therapeutic effects.

Background: The treatment of patients in a minimally conscious state (MCS) remains challenging. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive therapeutic method in treating neurologic diseases by regulating the cortical excitability. The aim is to investigate the effect of tDCS in patients with MCS in this study.

Objective: Cortical electrical stimulation (CES) can modulate cortical excitability through a plasticity-like mechanism and is considered to have therapeutic potentials in Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the precise therapeutic value of such approach for PD remains unclear. Accordingly, we adopted a PD rat model to determine the therapeutic effects of CES.

Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a popular noninvasive technique for modulating motor cortical plasticity and has therapeutic potential for the treatment of Parkinson's disease (PD). However, the therapeutic benefits and related mechanisms of rTMS in PD are still uncertain. Accordingly, preclinical animal research is helpful for enabling translational research to explore an effective therapeutic strategy and for better understanding the underlying mechanisms.

Objective: This study aimed to explore effective connectivity (EC) of the core networks in cognition impairment associated with temporal lobe epilepsy (CI-TLE) by applying resting state and Granger causality analysis (REST-GCA). The specific brain regions that played a critical role in classification were assessed using multivariate pattern analysis (MVPA).

Methods: Thirty-two patients with CI-TLE and 29 healthy controls who were matched based on age and gender underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI).

A novel varicosa-like virus was identified in a tall morning glory (Ipomoea purpurea) plant by high-throughput sequencing and tentatively named "morning glory varicosavirus" (MGVV). The complete genome of MGVV contains two segments of negative-sense single-stranded RNA of 6409 (RNA1) and 5288 (RNA2) nucleotides. RNA1 encodes a 224.

Intermuscular coupling is essential in the coordination of agonist and antagonist muscles. However, its dynamic characteristics are not fully understood, especially the alterations of intermuscular coupling induced by stroke and aging. This study aimed to investigate the aging- and stroke-related changes in the global and instantaneous intermuscular coupling between agonist and antagonist muscles.
