- Penthorum chinense Pursh (PCP) is a medicinal plant that has potential protective effects against liver damage and oxidative stress, which are associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
- In a study with db/db mice, treatment with different doses of PCP led to significant reductions in fasting blood glucose (FBG) and insulin resistance (IR) while improving liver glucose metabolism through enhanced expression of key transporters and enzymes.
- PCP also positively influenced lipid profiles by increasing good cholesterol (HDL-C) and decreasing bad cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglycerides, while additionally reducing obesity and food intake in the diabetic mice.
