  • Penthorum chinense Pursh (PCP) is a medicinal plant that has potential protective effects against liver damage and oxidative stress, which are associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
  • In a study with db/db mice, treatment with different doses of PCP led to significant reductions in fasting blood glucose (FBG) and insulin resistance (IR) while improving liver glucose metabolism through enhanced expression of key transporters and enzymes.
  • PCP also positively influenced lipid profiles by increasing good cholesterol (HDL-C) and decreasing bad cholesterol (LDL-C) and triglycerides, while additionally reducing obesity and food intake in the diabetic mice.

The present paper compared the major storage proteins in starchy endosperm of four autotetraploid rice lines with that of their corresponding diploid rice lines. The content of albumin, globulin, prolamin and glutelin in each sample was determined respectively. The structure and expression pattern of each storage protein was investigated using one-dimensional SDS-PAGE.
