Article Synopsis
  • Changji'an Formula (CJAF) is a Chinese herbal compound that shows clinical effectiveness in treating irritable bowel syndrome with predominant diarrhea (IBS-D), although its molecular mechanisms were not previously defined.
  • Through network pharmacology analysis, researchers identified 232 active compounds of CJAF and 397 potential targets, highlighting immune and inflammatory pathways, particularly the NF-κB, TNF, and IL-17 signaling pathways.
  • In animal studies, CJAF reduced diarrhea symptoms and visceral hypersensitivity associated with IBS-D by upregulating protective colonic proteins and inhibiting inflammatory pathways, thus presenting a new potential treatment strategy for IBS-D.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates immune cell characteristics in patients with active Crohn's disease (CDa) and inactive Crohn's disease (CDin) to understand their immune system differences.
  • Using mass cytometry and single-cell RNA sequencing, researchers analyzed various immune cells and found distinct patterns between CDa, CDin, and healthy controls.
  • Results showed that specific immune cell types were more prevalent in CDa compared to CDin, suggesting these cells might play a role in the progression of Crohn's disease and could help in improving diagnosis and treatment strategies.

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has become a global public health problem. The prevalence of IBD in China increased annually in past two decades.

Methods: This study was to translate and validate the rating form of IBD patients' concerns (RFIPC), and to describe disease-related worries and concerns of patients with IBD.

Article Synopsis
  • The research examines the immune system's role in ulcerative colitis (UC), comparing active UC (UCa), inactive UC (UCin), and healthy controls (HC) to identify distinct immune characteristics.
  • Techniques like mass cytometry (CyTOF) and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) were employed to analyze immune cell differences and validate findings between the groups.
  • Key immune cell subsets were identified, revealing that UCa featured unique increases and decreases in specific Tregs, B cells, dendritic cells, and natural killer cells, which may help differentiate between UCa, UCin, and HC for better patient classification.

Article Synopsis
  • Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic inflammatory condition that requires better treatment options, and Centella asiatica, a traditional herb known for its anti-inflammatory properties, is being studied for its potential effectiveness.
  • The study aimed to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects and underlying mechanisms of C. asiatica ethanol extract (CA) in a mouse model of colitis induced by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS).
  • Results indicated that CA significantly improved colon health, reduced inflammation, enhanced the integrity of the intestinal barrier by increasing tight junction proteins, and positively influenced gut microbiota and intestinal motility.

There were no systematic researches about autophagy-related long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) signatures to predict the survival of patients with colon adenocarcinoma. It was necessary to set up corresponding autophagy-related lncRNA signatures. The expression profiles of lncRNAs which contained 480 colon adenocarcinoma samples were obtained from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database.

Objective: Ulcerative colitis (UC), one of the most stubborn diseases, is mainly treated by aminosalicylic acid (ASA). However, the side effects of ASA include vomiting, nausea, rash, diarrhea, headache, etc, which seriously affect life-quality of UC patients. Probiotics such as bifid triple viable (BTV) could reduce drug-induced adverse reactions and has a good clinical effect on UC.

Article Synopsis
  • The meta-analysis investigates the link between Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) and periodontal disease (PD) using data collected from various studies.
  • The analysis included 13 studies with a total of 6,800 patients, finding that individuals with oral H pylori had a 2.31 times higher odds of developing PD compared to those without.
  • The findings indicate a significant association between H pylori and PD, particularly among gastric disease patients, but calls for more comprehensive studies to further validate these results.

Article Synopsis
  • DNA mismatch repair is believed to significantly influence the progression and outcomes of colorectal cancer, but its exact prognostic value remains unclear.
  • A systematic review of 21 studies assessed the relationship between mismatch repair deficiency and patient survival, finding that those with such deficiencies had lower overall and disease-free survival rates.
  • The analysis revealed that mismatch repair deficiency correlates with better prognosis in both Asian and Western populations, suggesting its potential as a valuable prognostic marker in colorectal cancer patients.

Background: To systematically evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of Kangfuxin liquid (KFXL) combined with aminosalicylic acid (ASA) in treating ulcerative colitis (UC).

Methods: The PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, CBM, Wan fang, the Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP), and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) databases were systematically searched for randomized controlled trials of KFXL combined with ASA for UC from the inception dates to March 3, 2017. Two researchers independently screened the literature, extracted data, and evaluated the methodological quality according to the inclusion criteria.
