Background: Fatal familial insomnia (FFI) is a rare autosomal dominant inherited disease and a type of prion diseases. We report a case of fatal familial insomnia (FFI) in a 52-year-old man who was initially misdiagnosed as Alzheimer's disease.

A multi-chromatic and multi-component lateral flow immunoassay (MCMC-LFIA) was developed for simultaneous detection of CP4 EPSPS, Bt-Cry1Ab, Bt-Cry1Ac, and PAT/bar proteins in genetically modified (GM) crops. Captured antibodies specific to these exogenous proteins were separately immobilized on a nitrocellulose membrane as test zones. Avian reovirus (ARV) is highly prevalent in healthy poultry flocks and has been linked to viral arthritis/tendonitis, dwarf syndrome, chronic respiratory disease, and immunosuppression in avian species, resulting in significant economic losses within the poultry industry. The non-structural protein p17 encoded by ARV induces cellular autophagy and facilitates viral proliferation, playing a pivotal role in viral pathogenesis. The H9N2 subtype avian influenza viruses mainly cause respiratory symptoms, reduce the egg production and fertility of poultry, and result in secondary infections, posing a great threat to the poultry industry and human health. Currently, all H9N2 avian influenza commercial vaccines are inactivated vaccines, which provide protection for immunized animals but cannot inhibit the spread of the virus and make it difficult to distinguish between the infected animals and vaccinated animals. In this study, a trimeric consensus H9 hemagglutinin (HA) subunit vaccine for the H9N2 subtype avian influenza virus based on a baculovirus expression system was first generated, and then the effects of three molecular adjuvants on the H9 HA subunit vaccine, Cholera toxin subunit B (CTB), flagellin, and granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) fused with H9 HA, and one synthetic compound, a polyinosinic-polycytidylic acid (PolyI:C) adjuvant, were evaluated in mice by intranasal administration.

Ligand-induced receptor and co-receptor heterodimerization is a common mechanism in receptor kinase (RK) signalling activation. SERINE-RICH ENDOGENOUS PEPTIDEs (SCOOPs) mediate the complex formation of Arabidopsis RK MIK2 and co-receptor BAK1, triggering immune responses. Through structural, biochemical and genetic analyses, we demonstrate that SCOOPs use their SxS motif and adjacent residues to bind MIK2 and the carboxy-terminal GGR residues to link MIK2 to BAK1.
