The sweetness of apple fruit is a key factor in the improvement of apple varieties, with fructose being the sweetest of the soluble sugars, playing a crucial role in determining the overall sweetness of the apple. Therefore, uncovering the key genes controlling fructose accumulation and deciphering the regulatory mechanisms of fructose are vitally important for the improvement of apple varieties. In this study, through BSA-seq and transcriptome analysis of the 'Changfu 2' × 'Golden Delicious' F1 hybrid population, MdNAC5 was identified as a key regulatory gene for fructose content.

In this study, the mitochondrial genome of , which parasitizes , was sequenced and assembled to fill the gap in understanding the molecular evolution of the genus . The mitochondrial genome is a double-stranded DNA molecule with a length of 14 882 bp, with a distinct AT preference for base composition and a notably higher AT content than GC content. The arrangement between genes is relatively compact, with a total of 10 gene intergenic regions and 12 gene overlap regions.

Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) exhibits strong dependency on the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle and oxidative phosphorylation to fuel anabolic process. Here, we show that malate dehydrogenase 2 (MDH2), a key enzyme of the TCA cycle, is palmitoylated at cysteine 138 (C138) residue, resulting in increased activity of MDH2. Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) causes permanent neurological sequelae, but the underlying mechanism needs to be further clarified. Here, we show that inhibition of metabotropic glutamate receptor 1 (mGluR1) with negative allosteric modulator JNJ16259685 improves long-term neurobehavioral outcomes in an endovascular perforation model of SAH. JNJ16259685 improves cerebrovascular dysfunction through attenuation of cerebral blood flow (CBF) reduction, cerebral vasoconstrictio, and microthrombosis formation in a rat SAH model.
