Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on developing a predictive model for postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) in patients with herpes zoster (HZ) due to the lack of existing practical models.
  • It involved 174 patients at a Pain Management department in Beijing, identifying risk factors like age, gender, pain severity, and rash size through a 3-month follow-up.
  • The final model showed high accuracy in predicting PHN, with a ROC curve area of 0.81, demonstrating effectiveness in estimating risk based on identified predictors.

Background: Triptans selectively agoniste 5-Hydroxytryptamine(5-HT) receptors and are widely used in the treatment of migraine. Nevertheless, there is a dearth of comprehensive real-world clinical research on the safety of triptans. In light of the growing prevalence of migraine, it is imperative to gain a deeper understanding of the true extent of adverse events (AEs) associated with triptans in the clinical management of migraine.

This study aimed to utilize the nonnegative matrix factorization (NNMF) algorithm for muscle synergy analysis, extracting synergy structures and muscle weightings and mining biomarkers reflecting changes in muscle fatigue from these synergy structures. A leg press exercise to induce fatigue was performed by 11 participants. Surface electromyography (sEMG) data from seven muscles, electrocardiography (ECG) data, Borg CR-10 scale scores, and the z-axis acceleration of the weight block were simultaneously collected.

Objective: According to data from several observational studies, there is a strong association between circulating inflammatory cytokines and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), but it is not clear whether this association is causal or confounding; therefore, the main aim of the present study was to analyze whether circulating inflammatory proteins have a bidirectional relationship with PHN at the genetic inheritance level using a Mendelian randomization (MR) study.

Methods: The Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) database was used for our analysis. We gathered data on inflammation-related genetic variation from three GWASs of human cytokines.

Objective: To investigate the circadian changes of the autonomic function in patients with zoster-associated pain (ZAP).

Methods: A total of 37 patients with ZAP from April 2022 to October 2022 were enrolled as the observation group, and 37 normal volunteers at the same time were selected as the control group. All participants were required to wear a 24-h Holter, which was used to compare the heart rate variability (HRV) between the two groups.

Background: In this study, we aimed to analyze the clinical characteristics and prognosis of children with retinoblastoma (RB) in a single center in China with a large sample collection spanning 17 years.

Methods: The clinical data of 2790 children with RB treated in Beijing Tongren Hospital from 2005 to 2021 were collected, and a retrospective analysis was conducted.

Results: The median age of the participants was 28.

Pulmonary artery sarcoma (PAS) is a sporadic malignant tumor that mainly originates from the pulmonary arteries. However, PAS may also involve the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) and lead to obstruction, syncope, or sudden death. Early diagnosis and complete surgical resection are essential to prolong survival and improve the quality of life of patients with PAS.

Objectives: To summarize the clinical features of liver damage in children in the acute stage of Kawasaki disease (KD), and to investigate the clinical value of liver damage in predicting coronary artery lesion and no response to intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) in children with KD.

Methods: The medical data were collected from 925 children who were diagnosed with KD for the first time in Beijing Children's Hospital from January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2017. According to the presence or absence of abnormal alanine aminotransferase (ALT) level on admission, the children were divided into a liver damage group (=284) and a non-liver damage group (=641).

Article Synopsis
  • A study was conducted to assess the effectiveness and safety of Chuanxiong Qingnao Granule (CQG) for treating migraines, using a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial design.
  • The trial involved 346 participants, comparing response rates and various migraine-related factors between those receiving CQG and those receiving a placebo over a 12-week treatment period.
  • Results showed that CQG significantly reduced migraine frequency and related symptoms, with a high responder rate and no severe side effects reported, indicating it is a safe and effective option for migraine relief.

  • Wuzi Yanzong pill (WZYZP) is a traditional Chinese medicine used since the Tang dynasty for improving kidney health and treating male infertility.
  • This study aimed to investigate the protective effects of WZYZP on spermatogenesis disorders through both animal and cell studies, measuring outcomes like sperm count, motility, and hormone levels.
  • Results indicated that WZYZP significantly improved sperm parameters, reduced testicular cell apoptosis, and influenced key signaling pathways related to cell growth and survival.

Article Synopsis
  • Infantile digital fibromatosis is a rare, benign tumor primarily affecting infants, typically located on fingers and toes, and often shows spontaneous regression despite a high recurrence rate following surgery.
  • Although there has been some speculation about a link between this condition and human papillomavirus (HPV), reports are limited and inconsistent.
  • This case study highlights a recurrent instance of infantile digital fibromatosis with identified HPV infection after surgical removal, suggesting a potential connection that warrants further investigation.

Background: This study explores and analyzes the clinical characteristics and prognostic factors of hepatoblastoma (HB) in children under 6 years old and establishes a new risk-stratification system for individualized therapy.

Methods: The clinical data of 382 pediatric patients under 6 years old (231 males and 151 females) who had been diagnosed with HB by pathology between May 2005 and May 2019 were collected. By analyzing the risk factors influencing the survival rate of patients with HB, a new risk-stratification system was established, and it was compared with previous risk-stratification systems by a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve.

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Diabetes mellitus-induced erectile dysfunction (DMED) is one of the most common complications of diabetes mellitus. Leech and centipede granules (LCG) have traditionally been used as blood-activating agents in various ethnomedicinal systems of East Asia, especially in China. It is often used to regulate bodily functions and considered as adjuvant therapy for promoting blood circulation, alleviating blood coagulation, activating meridians, and relieving stasis.

Glioma is a fatal brain tumor characterized by rapid proliferation and treatment resistance. Ferroptosis is a newly discovered programmed cell death and plays a crucial role in the occurrence and progression of tumors. In this study, we identified ferroptosis specific markers to reveal the relationship between ferroptosis-related genes and glioma by analyzing whole transcriptome data from Chinese Glioma Genome Atlas, The Cancer Genome Atlas dataset, GSE16011 dataset, and the Repository of Molecular Brain Neoplasia Data dataset.
