Fasciola hepatica, the liver fluke, is a trematode parasite that causes disease of economic importance in livestock. As a zoonosis this parasite also poses a risk to human health in areas where it is endemic. Population genetic studies can reveal the mechanisms responsible for genetic structuring (non-panmixia) within parasite populations and provide valuable insights into population dynamics, which in turn enables theoretical predictions of evolutionary dynamics such as the evolution of drug resistance.

The use of Triclabendazole for controlling fasciolosis is compromised by increased drug resistance affecting livestock and humans. Although the mode of action of TCBZ is still unknown, putative candidates and markers of resistance have been advanced. A single nucleotide polymorphism (T687 G) in F.

Background: Fasciola hepatica is the main agent of fasciolosis, a zoonotic disease affecting livestock worldwide, and an emerging food-borne disease in humans. Even when effective treatments are available, drugs are costly and can result in tolerance, liver damage and normally they do not prevent reinfection. Drug-resistant strains in livestock have been reported in various countries and, more worryingly, drug resistance in human cases has emerged in South America.

Background: Complex network approach allows the representation and analysis of complex systems of interacting agents in an ordered and effective manner, thus increasing the probability of discovering significant properties of them. In the present study, we defined and built for the first time a complex network based on data obtained from Immune Epitope Database for parasitic organisms. We then considered the general topology, the node degree distribution, and the local structure (triadic census) of this network.

In the last years, the encryption of system structure information with different network topological indices has been a very active field of research. In the present study, we assembled for the first time a complex network using data obtained from the Immune Epitope Database for fungi species, and we then considered the general topology, the node degree distribution, and the local structure of this network. We also calculated eight node centrality measures for the observed network and compared it with three theoretical models.

Anthelmintic resistance in livestock parasites is currently a worldwide problem. Fasciola hepatica is a cosmopolitan parasite which causes considerable loss in sheep and cattle production systems all over the world. Chemotherapy is currently the main tool available for its control.

This work characterized the effects of albendazole sulphoxide (ABZSO) on placental and fetal parameters in Wistar rats on day 20 of gestation. ABZSO was fed in laboratory chow at 0, 2.5, 5, 10, 20 or 30 mg/kg/d from day 6 to 15 of gestation to pregnant rats.
