The present study aimed to evaluate the effects of incorporating different concentrations (1% and 2%) of Malvaviscus arboreus flower (FE) and leaf (LE) extracts as functional ingredients in goat milk yogurt. This study analyzed the impact of these formulations (YFE1%, YFE2%, YLE1%, and YLE2%) on the physicochemical, bioactive, antioxidant, rheological, textural, and sensory properties of goat yogurt over a 28-day storage period. Including FE and LE extracts significantly enhanced the yogurt's antioxidant activity, reaching up to 10.

(BAL) on its physicochemical and bioactive properties, as well as the optimization of the freeze-drying (FD) process to develop a fruit-based probiotic delivery system. Fermentation significantly reduced the pH and total acidity of the pulp, achieving a cell viability of 11 log CFU/mL.

The key findings suggest that edible insects offer a viable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional livestock, requiring significantly less land, water, and feed while emitting lower levels of greenhouse gases. Insect farming can also reduce waste and recycle nutrients, supporting circular economy models.

We systematically characterized six emulsions with varying GG and XG ratios, employing spray-drying techniques for the encapsulation process. The stability of the emulsions was quantitatively analyzed, revealing a marked decrease in stability rates correlated with higher initial emulsion activity (zero-order kinetic constant r = -0.

The research focused on assessing the cheese's physicochemical properties, shelf life, lactic acid bacteria viability, syneresis behavior, and the impact of varying concentrations of functional ingredients. The addition of inulin and xanthan gum, following a design of experiments, significantly influenced the cheese's texture and consistency.

This investigation delved into the efficacy of distinct wall materials-whey protein isolate, high methoxy pectin, and gum arabic-when employed individually or in combination to encapsulate and preserve phenolic compounds and antioxidants during storage. The encapsulation process involved spray-drying bioactive compounds extracted from grapes.

When diabetes is diagnosed at 6-12 months of age (early onset diabetes [EOD]), the etiology may be monogenic; however, most cases consist of type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). Molecular diagnosis was determined in a cohort of 35 unrelated Brazilian patients with NDM or EOD based on targeted next-generation sequencing panel and/or chromosome 6q24 abnormalities.

However, one of the biggest challenges of producing gluten-free bread is to get a good quality structure. We hypothesize that using chitosan along with transglutaminase, a network of crosslinks would be generated, guaranteeing a better structure.

There is a need to apply filtering techniques to extract relevant information and provide appropriate data visualization methods to assist in clinical tasks and decision making. To present Soins DM, a mobile health tool, for monitoring the linkage among treatment factors of T1DM with an interactive data visualization approach.

Thus, the present study was aimed at evaluating whether diacerein could improve the metabolic and inflammatory profile among patients with T2DM under long-term treatment with glucose-lowering agents.
Methods: This is a double-blind, parallel, placebo-controlled trial with 72 participants randomly assigned to diacerein 50 mg or placebo for 12 weeks.
Injectable scaffolds find many applications on the biomedical field due to several advantages on preformed scaffolds such as being able to fill any defect can be used in minimal invasion surgeries and are ready to use products. The most critical parameter for an injectable scaffold usage is its injectability, which can be related with rheological properties. Therefore, the objective of the present work was to increase knowledge about the critical parameters influencing injectability of biopolymers used for injectable scaffolds.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of diacerein vs. placebo on urinary albumin/creatinine ratio (ACR), glomerular filtration rate (GFR), and inflammatory cytokines in type 2 DM participants with CKD.

This article reports the rationale for the Brazilian Cardioprotective Nutritional Program (BALANCE Program) Trial. This pragmatic, multicenter, nationwide, randomized, concealed, controlled trial was designed to investigate the effects of the BALANCE Program in reducing cardiovascular events. The BALANCE Program consists of a prescribed diet guided by nutritional content recommendations from Brazilian national guidelines using a unique nutritional education strategy, which includes suggestions of affordable foods.

Basic Procedures: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 340 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Tests were performed to evaluate vibration (tuning fork), light touch (10-g monofilament), temperature, and pain (pinprick) sensations, as well as ankle reflexes and heel walking.
Endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) haplotypes are associated with hypertension (HT) in patients with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). We evaluated the association of eNOS genotypes/haplotypes with the plasma concentrations of nitrite/nitrate (NO(x)), which are products of nitric oxide in HT, T2DM, and T2DM+HT patients. We studied eNOS polymorphisms in the promoter region (T-786C), in exon 7 (Glu298Asp), and in intron 4 (b/a) in 98 controls, 68 patients with HT, 66 patients with T2DM, and 86 patients with T2DM+HT.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPolymorphisms in the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene have been associated with the development of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM), but not with T2DM. However, no previous study has analyzed combinations of genetic markers (haplotypes), which can be more informative. We studied three eNOS genetic polymorphisms: a single nucleotide polymorphism in the promoter region (T(-786)C), in exon 7 (Glu298Asp), and a variable number of tandem repeats in intron 4 (b/a) in 103 healthy controls, and in 170 patients with T2DM (without DR, N=114; with DR, N=56).

While endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) haplotypes have been associated with HT, it is unknown whether eNOS genotypes/haplotypes are associated with altered susceptibility to HT in patients with T2DM. We studied the distribution of three eNOS genetic polymorphisms: a single nucleotide polymorphism in the promoter region (T(-786)C), in exon 7 (Glu298Asp), and a variable number of tandem repeats in intron 4(b/a).
