Objective: The physiological response of the synovium to acute mechanical stress has not been extensively studied. This response is interesting in terms of the morphological changes it can cause as any such changes should be taken into account during ultrasound examinations. The purpose of this study was to assess the extent of changes in ultrasound images of the synovial joint in the hands of healthy individuals after controlled mechanical stress.

We fabricate a biometric laser fiber synaptic sensor to transmit information from one neuron cell to the other by an optical way. The optical synapse is constructed on the base of an erbium-doped fiber laser, whose pumped diode current is driven by a pre-synaptic FitzHugh-Nagumo electronic neuron, and the laser output controls a post-synaptic FitzHugh-Nagumo electronic neuron. The implemented laser synapse displays very rich dynamics, including fixed points, periodic orbits with different frequency-locking ratios and chaos.

We carried out an experimental study of the synchronization of two unidirectionally coupled Rössler-like electronic circuits with two coexisting chaotic attractors. Different stages of synchronization are identified on the route from asynchronous motion to complete synchronization, as the coupling parameter is increased: intermittent asynchronous jumps between coexisting attractors; intermittent anticipating phase synchronization; and generalized synchronization in the form of subharmonic entrainment terminated by complete synchronization. All these regimes are analysed with time-series, power spectra and phase-space plots of the drive and response oscillators.
