The quantity of 14C-9N and 14C-9V PSs bound to leukocytes was proportional to the number of leukocytes and the incubation time; the binding was temperature-dependent. The binding activity appeared to be specific, since the binding was inhibited by prior treatment with homologous group 9 PSs.

In situ metachromatic inclusions were electron dense and contained phosphorus and divalent cations. Metachromatic inclusions isolated by anion-exchange column chromatography and by isoosmolar Metrizamide density gradient centrifugation were similar in composition to in situ inclusions.

One phenon emerged at the 86% level of similarity when strains were clustered according to their M-similarity values.

Groups of mice were given bacteria intraperitoneally and, at various intervals, Newcastle disease virus intravenously. There was an increase in the number of deaths and in the rates of death in these groups, when compared with a control group which was given only bacteria.
