Timely blood product preparation is important for patients undergoing surgery with a high risk of blood loss. However, in circumstances where no blood refrigerators exist in the operating room theatre complex, numerous potential problem sources during blood product preparation may lead to delays, and tense interpersonal interactions between anaesthesia and blood bank personnel can ensue. To evaluate this at our institution, an anonymous online survey was sent to anaesthesia providers and blood bank technologists.

Cinnamon is also considered beneficial to human health with therapeutic potential for treating various diseases, ranging from diabetes and cancer to neurodegenerative diseases. However, the mechanisms underlying cinnamon's health benefits remain elusive.

However, major provocations and transgression of deeply held values and moral beliefs, as well as witnessing the suffering of others can be as traumatic as fear-inducing danger-based events. This raises the need for scales that assess both danger- and nondanger-based events among soldiers operating in modern war zones.

Elevated expression of one such hyaluronidase, the Cell Migration Inducing and hyaluronan binding Protein (CEMIP), has been implicated in the pathogenesis and progression of several cancers as well as demyelinating diseases in the central nervous system (CNS). Developing effective and selective CEMIP inhibitors could therefore have efficacy in treating a variety of conditions where CEMIP is chronically elevated.

MicroRNAs play critical functions in brown adipocyte differentiation and maintenance. We aim to study the role of microRNA-21 (miR-21) in altered energy homeostasis and BAT thermogenesis in a PCOS mouse model of peripubertal androgen exposure.

The heterogeneity of cancer vaccine data significantly impedes effective integration and analysis. While CanVaxKB serves as a pioneering database for over 670 manually annotated cancer vaccines, it is important to distinguish that a database, on its own, does not offer the structured relationships and standardized definitions found in an ontology.

Traditionally, pathogenic parasites have been largely an evasive topic for vaccine design, with most successful vaccines only emerging recently. To aid vaccine design, the VIOLIN vaccine knowledgebase has collected vaccines from all sources to serve as a comprehensive vaccine knowledgebase.

Sedation is an important tool for obtaining diagnostics and providing treatment in this species. This prospective, randomized, and blinded study compared the sedative effects of SC alfaxalone (Protocol A) at approximately 12 mg/kg (median [range] = 12.

To systematically survey and analyze different reported cancer vaccines, we developed CanVaxKB (https://violinet.org/canvaxkb), the first web-based cancer vaccine knowledgebase that compiles over 670 therapeutic or preventive cancer vaccines that have been experimentally verified to be effective at various stages.

We study chemical pattern formation in a fluid between two flat plates and the effect of such patterns on the formation of convective cells. This patterning is made possible by assuming the plates are chemically reactive or release reagents into the fluid, both of which we model as chemical fluxes. We consider this as a specific example of boundary-bound reactions.

The integration of machine learning (ML) into this process has greatly enhanced our ability to predict viable vaccine candidates from these sequences. We have previously developed a Vaxign-ML program based on the eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost).

PCOS is diagnosed by the presence of two of the following three characteristics: hyperandrogenemia and/or hyperandrogenism, oligo/amenorrhea, and polycystic ovarian morphology. PCOS is associated with reproductive and non-reproductive complications, including obesity, insulin resistance and diabetes, dyslipidemia, and increased blood pressure.

To facilitate the study, we have developed a tool called Vaccine Induced Gene Expression Analysis Tool (VIGET), with the aim to provide an interactive online tool for users to efficiently and robustly analyze the host immune response gene expression data collected in the ImmPort/GEO databases. VIGET allows users to select vaccines, choose ImmPort studies, set up analysis models by choosing confounding variables and two groups of samples having different vaccination times, and then perform differential expression analysis to select genes for pathway enrichment analysis and functional interaction network construction using the Reactome's web services.

APAP-induced ALF is characterized by coagulopathy, hepatic encephalopathy, multi-organ failure, and death. Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, no effective treatment existed to prevent clinical worsening of COVID-19 among recently diagnosed outpatients. At the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah, we conducted a phase 2 prospective parallel group randomized placebo-controlled trial (NCT04342169) to determine whether hydroxychloroquine given early in disease reduces the duration of SARS-CoV-2 shedding. We enrolled nonhospitalized adults (≥18 years of age) with a recent positive diagnostic test for SARS-CoV-2 (within 72 h of enrollment) and adult household contacts.

In this paper, we propose a set of postulates and a framework for systematically understanding complex molecular host-pathogen interaction networks. Specifically, we first propose four host-pathogen interaction (HPI) postulates as the basis for understanding molecular and cellular host-pathogen interactions and their relations to disease outcomes.

We argue that in the interest of developing effective and safe vaccines and drugs and to better understand coronaviruses and associated disease mechenisms it is necessary to integrate the large and exponentially growing body of heterogeneous coronavirus data. Ontologies play an important role in standard-based knowledge and data representation, integration, sharing, and analysis.

We demonstrated that sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT2i) administration decreases fat mass without affecting IR in the PCOS model. In male models of IR, administration of SGLT2i decreases oxidative stress and improves mitochondrial function in white adipose tissue (WAT).
