The Hewlett Packard Enterprise-Cray EX Frontier is the world's first and fastest exascale supercomputer, hosted at the Oak Ridge Leadership Computing Facility in Tennessee, United States. Frontier is a significant electricity consumer, drawing 8-30 MW; this massive energy demand produces significant waste heat, requiring extensive cooling measures. Although harnessing this waste heat for campus heating is a sustainability goal at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), the 30 °C-38 °C waste heat temperature poses compatibility issues with standard HVAC systems.

There are over 8 million central venous access devices inserted each year, many in patients with chronic conditions who rely on central access for life-preserving therapies. Mitochondrial dysfunction caused by aberrant Complex I assembly and reduced activity of the electron transport chain is pathogenic in many genetic and age-related diseases. Mice missing the Complex I subunit NADH dehydrogenase [ubiquinone] iron-sulfur protein 4 (NDUFS4) are a leading mammalian model of severe mitochondrial disease that exhibit many characteristic symptoms of Leigh Syndrome including oxidative stress, neuroinflammation, brain lesions, and premature death. NDUFS4 knockout mice have decreased expression of nearly every Complex I subunit.

Partial anomalous pulmonary venous return (PAPVR) is a rare congenital cardiovascular condition in which some of the pulmonary veins drain into the systemic circulation. We report on the cadaveric dissection of a 71-year-old Caucasian male donor who died of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with hypertension. We noted a faint incisional scar on the thorax extending from the parasternal region at the 4th intercostal level to the midaxillary line.

Purpose Basicervical femoral neck fractures are uncommon injuries that occur at the extracapsular base of the femoral neck at its transition with the intertrochanteric line. Controversy remains in the orthopedic literature as to the optimal method of treatment for this fracture type given the inherent instability and greater rate of implant failure with traditional fixation constructs. The purpose of this study is to quantify the incidence and preferred treatment methods of basicervical hip fractures at a single, regional, Level 1 trauma center and to identify differences in postoperative complications between treatment options.

Ribonucleotide reductase (RR) is an essential multi-subunit enzyme found in all living organisms; it catalyzes the rate-limiting step in dNTP synthesis, namely, the conversion of ribonucleoside diphosphates to deoxyribonucleoside diphosphates. As expression levels of human RR (hRR) are high during cell replication, hRR has long been considered an attractive drug target for a range of proliferative diseases, including cancer. While there are many excellent reviews regarding the structure, function, and clinical importance of hRR, recent years have seen an increase in novel approaches to inhibiting hRR that merit an updated discussion of the existing inhibitors and strategies to target this enzyme.

Phoenixin (PNX) is a highly conserved, novel hormone with diverse functions, including hypothalamic control of reproduction, appetite modulation, and regulation of energy metabolism and inflammation. While some functions appear conserved across vertebrates, additional research is required to fully characterize these complex pleiotropic effects. For instance, very little is known about transcriptome level changes associated with PNX exposure, including responses in the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis, which is critical in vertebrate reproduction.

Introduction: Hip fracture mortality remains a challenge for orthopedic surgeons. The purpose of this study was to compare resuscitative mean arterial pressures (MAPs), intravenous fluid (IVF) administration, and mortality rates between intertrochanteric (IT) and femoral neck (FN) fracture patients.

Hypothesis: We hypothesized that IT fracture patients would receive less aggressive fluid resuscitation than FNF patients given the perceived less invasive nature of intra-medullary nails compared with hemiarthroplasty.

Procedural interoperability in health care requires information support and monitoring of a common work practice. Our aim was to devise an information model for a complete annotation of actions in clinical pathways that allow use of multiple plans concomitantly as several partial processes underlie any composite clinical process. The development of the information model was based on the integration of a defined protocol for clinical interoperability in the care of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and an observational study protocol for cohort characterization at the group level.
