Background: Vaccines against coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) have been effective in preventing symptomatic diseases, hospitalizations, and intensive care unit (ICU) admissions. However, data regarding the effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccines in reducing mortality among critically ill patients with COVID-19 remains unclear.

Aims: To determine the vaccination status and investigate the impact of the COVID-19 vaccine on the 28-day mortality in critically ill patients with COVID-19.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and lipid peroxidation (LPO) levels may increase in diabetic state and lead to oxidative stress, which plays a critical role in the progression of diabetes. There are various sources of ROS, including cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (CYP450s), which may be modulated in terms of their activities and expressions under diabetic conditions. This study is aimed to investigate the effects of streptozotocin-induced diabetes and insulin treatment on hepatic cytochrome P450 1A1 (CYP1A1) and cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) activities and LPO levels.

Objective: In this study, the relationship between osteoporotic vertebral fractures and 9041 Guanine/Adenine and 3673 Guanine/Adenine polymorphisms related to the vitamin K epoxide reductase complex subunit-1 (VKORC1) gene in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis was investigated.

Method: DNA was isolated from blood samples collected from 150 women with postmenopausal osteoporosis. Genotyping of the two polymorphic regions (9041 Guanine/Adenine and 3673 Guanine/Adenine) in VKORC1 was performed using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism analysis.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of dexmedetomidine before and after ischaemia in diabetic rat kidney ischaemia reperfusion (IR) injury in the experimental diabetic rat model.

Methods: Data belonging to 35 rats weighing between 250 and 300 g were analysed. Diabetes mellitus (DM) was induced using streptozotocin.

[Purpose] The aim of this study was to assess the relationship between atherosclerosis and knee osteoarthritis grade in women as assessed by both ultrasonography and radiography. [Subjects and Methods] Seventy women diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis were classified into two groups according to cartilage grading/radiographic grading. Patients with Kellgren-Lawrence grades 1 and 2 were included in group 1, while those with Kellgren-Lawrence grades 3 and 4 were included in group 2.

Objective: Recent studies have shown that the pulmonary veins are important in atrial fibrillation (AF). This study evaluated the relationship between total pulmonary vein diameter and postoperative AF in on-pump coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) patients.

Patients And Methods: Our study enrolled 149 patients undergoing on-pump CABG.

Background: The aim of this study was to clarify the effects of continuous passive motion (CPM) treatment on adhesive capsulitis (AC) in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients.

Methods: Forty-one DM patients with AC were randomized to two treatment groups. The first group (n= 20) (CPM group) received CPM treatments; the second group (n= 21) had conventional physical therapy (CPT group), including active stretching, range of motion (ROM) and pendulum exercises.

Objective: Spinorphin is a potential endogenous antinociceptive agent although the mechanism(s) of its analgesic effect remain unknown. We conducted this study to investigate, by considering intracellular calcium concentrations as a key signal for nociceptive transmission, the effects of spinorphin on cytoplasmic Ca(2+) ([Ca(2+)]i) transients, evoked by high-K(+) (30 mM) depolariasation or capsaicin, and to determine whether there were any differences in the effects of spinorphin among subpopulation of cultured rat dorsal root ganglion (DRG) neurons.

Methods: DRG neurons were cultured on glass coverslips following enzymatic digestion and mechanical agitation, and loaded with the calcium sensitive dye fura-2 AM (1 µM).

Objectives: The aim of this study was to investigate the protective effect of topical rifamycin SV treatment against sternal wound infection (SWI) in diabetic patients undergoing on-pump coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.

Methods: One hundred and fifty-nine diabetic patients who were scheduled to undergo isolated on-pump CABG surgery were included. Eight were excluded for various reasons.

The technique of lengthening over an antegrade nail is used widely for distraction osteogenesis of the femur. Most reported complications of this technique are related to Schanz pins. We hypothesized that reducing the number of Schanz pins would enable successful distraction with fewer complications.

The Taylor Spatial Frame uses a computer program-based six-axis deformity analysis. However, there is often a residual deformity after the initial correction, especially in deformities with a rotational component. This problem can be resolved by recalculating the parameters and inputting all new deformity and mounting parameters.

This randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study was designed to investigate the short-term efficacy of ultrasound therapy in 90 patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA). Patients were randomly assigned to three groups: group 1 received continuous ultrasound, group 2 received pulsed ultrasound, and group 3 received a 'sham' (placebo) ultrasound for 5 min each session. All treatments were applied once a day for 5 days a week for 2 weeks, i.

Traditional segment transport methods pose major soft tissue and bone problems related to the pin or K wire that fixes the transported bone segment through the soft tissue, especially excursion of the K wire. We designed the cable bone transport technique to prevent these problems and to increase patient comfort. Thirteen patients with bone defects (11 in the tibia and 2 in the femur) were treated successfully with the new method.

Objectives: We evaluated the effectiveness of the Taylor spatial frame (Smith & Nephew, Memphis, TN, USA) in the treatment of complex lower extremity deformities.

Methods: The Taylor spatial frame (TSF) was applied to 29 bone segments of 25 patients (12 females, 13 males; mean age 17 years). Indications for the TSF were congenital disorders (n=12), rickets (n=6), physeal injuries (n=4), stiff nonunions (n=3), malunions (n=3), and sequela from septic arthritis of the knee (n=1).

The metal-related complications caused by orthopedic implants have long been a concern, but these problems have been considered mostly in the field of arthroplasty or internal fixation of fractures. The recent prevalence of spinal instrumentation has evoked a similar concern among spine surgeons. Here, we present a case of intraspinal metallosis adjacent to the pedicular hook occurring after treatment of vertebral fracture by posterior spinal instrumentation and fusion, and causing paraparesis at the 3rd postoperative year.
