Revealing the status of forests is important for sustainable forest management. The basis of the concept lies in meeting the needs of future generations and today's generations in the management of forests. The use of remote-sensing (RS) technologies and geographic information systems (GIS) techniques in revealing the current forest structure and in long-term planning of forest areas with multipurpose planning techniques is increasing day by day.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the high prevalence of pain in Parkinson's disease (PD) patients, with 80.6% reporting pain, indicating its significant impact on quality of life.
  • It distinguishes between neuropathic pain (NP) and musculoskeletal pain, finding that longer disease duration predicts NP and that females experience more musculoskeletal pain.
  • The research highlights the correlation between anxiety and central parkinsonian pain and suggests further exploration of amantadine's potential benefits in managing pain, emphasizing the need for personalized treatment approaches in PD.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder that is characterized by the accumulation of amyloid plaques, phosphorylated tau tangles and microglia toxicity, resulting in neuronal death and cognitive decline. Since microglia are recognized as one of the key players in the disease, it is crucial to understand how microglia operate in disease conditions and incorporate them into models. The studies on human microglia functions are thought to reflect the post-symptomatic stage of the disease.

Background: Dual-task activities, which involve performing two separate tasks simultaneously, often result in reduced motor function and daily activity performance among individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA).

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the impact of single- and dual-task conditions on muscle strength and performance in individuals with knee OA and examine how cognitive load influences physical task performance in this population.

Methods: Sixty patients with knee OA were included.

Lead Sulfide (PbS) has garnered attention as a promising thermoelectric (TE) material due to its natural abundance and cost-effectiveness. However, its practical application is hindered by inherently high lattice thermal conductivity and low electrical conductivity. In this study, we address these challenges by surface functionalization of PbS nanocrystals using CuS molecular complexes-based ligand displacement.

The present study investigated the impact of boric acid (BA) and borax (BX) on markers of inflammation and modifications in miR‑21/PTEN/AKT pathway genes in the liver and kidney tissues of Sprague Dawley male rats with sepsis induced by cecal ligation and puncture (CLP). A total of 60 male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly divided into 6 groups, each containing 10 animals as follows: Control, CLP (where the model was created), 20 mg/kg BX (CLP + BX1), 40 mg/kg BX (CLP + BX2), 20 mg/kg BA (CLP + BA1) and 40 mg/kg BA (CLP + BA2). Liver and kidney tissues were analyzed for histopathological changes, immunopositivity for tumor necrosis factor‑α, interleukin (IL)‑6 and IL‑10, and gene expression of microRNA‑21 (miR‑21), phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) and AKT.

Blood plasma therapy, a new treatment method to eliminate the damage and deterioration caused by aging in many organ systems, has attracted increasing attention. The digestive tract, which cooperates with many different systems, has strong effects on our health. In the present study, the effects of plasma therapy on the ileum of elderly rats were investigated.

Background: Round shoulder posture (RSP), characterized by forward shoulder positioning from weakened and tense muscles, disrupts normal biomechanics and can cause Subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS), resulting in pain during specific movements or positions. This study examines the immediate effects of Kinesio taping (KT) on pain, proprioception, and posture in individuals in round shoulder individuals with SIS.

Methods: The study involved 114 patients diagnosed with RSP and SIS.

Objectives: Fournier's gangrene is an aggressive, rapidly progressing, and life-threatening necrotizing fasciitis of the perineal and genital regions. Various scoring systems have been developed for predicting survival and prognosis in Fournier's gangrene. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the newly developed Fournier's gangrene mortality index (FGMI) in predicting mortality associated with Fournier's gangrene.

Background: Isotretinoin is frequently used for treating severe, treatment-resistant, and scarring acne. A wide range of musculoskeletal side effects are reported due to isotretinoin, and one of them is enthesopathy.

Objectives: In this study, we used ultrasound to evaluate tendon thickness and the presence of enthesophytes, erosions, calcifications, and bursitis.

Article Synopsis
  • - Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is linked to increased risks of sarcopenia (muscle loss) and has a complex relationship with osteoporosis (OP) in postmenopausal women, highlighting the need for further study on these connections.
  • - A study involving 444 postmenopausal women found that those with DM had higher rates of sarcopenia (23.4%) and lower rates of OP (33.5%) compared to controls, suggesting differing impacts of DM on muscle and bone health.
  • - Results indicated that longer menopause duration positively influenced OP risk, while higher age and body mass index correlated with greater sarcopenia risk; DM appeared to negatively impact OLST scores, reflecting challenges

Purpose: Pregnancy induces significant metabolic, immunological, and endocrinological changes to support fetal growth. The 75-gram oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) is standard for gestational diabetes screening, but concerns exist about its potential to induce oxidative stress, affecting both maternal and fetal health. The aim of the study is examining changes in oxidative stress markers and thiol/disulfide homeostasis in pregnant women to evaluate these concerns.

Article Synopsis
  • * A comparison was made between 195 patients regarding hearing improvement and 211 patients for GSR, focusing on 103 DLG and 108 SLG patients' postoperative results.
  • * Findings revealed that while the DLG group had slightly better hearing averages, there was no significant difference in hearing gain or GSR between DLG and SLG, suggesting DLG may not be the better choice and could potentially negatively impact hearing.

Background: Deep-lobe tumors have been shown to possess a significantly thicker capsule with less tumor penetration compared to superficial tumors. Thus, more conservative surgical approaches, rather than aggressive methods, have been proposed for treating benign deep-lobe tumors of the parotid gland.

Aim: To evaluate the surgical outcomes and oncological safety of selective deep-lobe parotidectomy (SDLP) in patients with benign lesions located in the deep lobe of the parotid gland.

A highly efficient hole-selective passivating contact remains the crucial step required to increase the efficiency of polysilicon-based Si solar cells. The future development of solar modules depends on a device structure that can complement the electron-selective tunnel oxide passivating contact with an equivalent hole-selective contact. We investigate plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposited (PECVD) SiN and atomic layer deposited AlO as alternative nanolayers for the passivation layer in polysilicon tunnel contacts.

: The antidiabetic effect of SGLT2 inhibitors (SGLT2-is) is based on their ability to increase glucose excretion through urine by inhibiting the kidney-resident SGLT2 protein. Euglycemic diabetic ketoacidosis (EuDKA) is an uncommon but potentially life-threatening adverse effect of these medications, which are notable for their antidiabetic, cardiovascular, and renal protective properties. This study aimed to clarify the impact of SGLT2-is on demographic, clinical, and biochemical characteristics in patients with DKA.
