The purpose of this study was to generate a quantitative profile of electrocardiograms (ECGs) for confirming surgical success of permanent coronary artery ligation. An ECG was recorded at baseline, and 0, 1, and 5 min after ligation and analyzed using iWorkx LabScribe software. (C57Bl6/J, = 8/sex) was enrolled to determine ECG characteristics that were confirmed in (C57Bl6/J, = 6/sex; = 6 males/4 females).

Affiliation with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and other 12-Step self-help groups is becoming more common at the same time as professional substance abuse treatment services are becoming less available and of shorter duration. As a result of these two trends, patients' outcomes may be increasingly influenced by the degree to which professional treatment programs help patients take maximum advantage of self-help groups. The present study of 3018 treated veterans examined how the theoretical orientation of a substance abuse treatment program affects (1) the proportion of its patients that participate in self-help groups, and, (2) the degree of benefit patients derive from participation in self-help groups.

We determined the diagnostic accuracy of sonography for the assessment of injury to the Achilles tendon. After anatomic investigations in three human cadavers, we performed a clinical study in 24 healthy volunteers and 73 symptomatic patients referred for achillodynia or signs of heel thickening or both in whom a clinical diagnosis of acute total rupture was excluded. High-resolution real-time sonography was performed and the results were compared with final clinical diagnoses (55 patients) and surgical findings (18 patients).

Thirty-five patients with normal renal allografts as well as 10 healthy volunteers with normal native kidneys were examined by duplex sonography. Blood flow measurements were performed in the main renal artery as well as in segmental, interlobar and arcuate arteries. In both groups the normal range of variation in blood flow was defined by using the resistive index (RI).

A 25-year-old patient had unilateral absence of the right pulmonary artery (UARPA) and severe left pulmonary artery hypertension. After death from congestive right heart failure, autopsy revealed histologic signs of pulmonary veno-occlusive disease (PVOD) and pulmonary hypertension (PH). An accessory arterial vessel that was thrombotically occluded was found connecting the ascending aorta and the right pulmonary hilum.
