Applied to wooden objects, it allows determination of their morphologies or manufacturing techniques, but also measurement of growth ring widths. Background: Keratinopathic ichthyoses are a group of hereditary skin disorders caused by pathogenic variants in keratin genes such as KRT1, KRT2 and KRT10, resulting in conditions such as epidermolytic ichthyosis (EI), autosomal-recessive EI, superficial EI and epidermal nevus. Case reports highlight the diversity of clinical manifestations, but only limited information exists regarding the quality of life and burden of disease.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess the clinical spectrum, genotype-phenotype correlations and burden of disease in patients with epidermolytic ichthyosis in Germany.

Competition, facilitation, and predation offer alternative explanations for successional patterns of migratory herbivores. However, these interactions are difficult to measure, leaving uncertainty about the mechanisms underlying body-size-dependent grazing-and even whether succession occurs at all. Lions have long been perceived as Africa's, if not the world's, most fearsome terrestrial predator, the "king of beasts". Wildlife's fear of humans may, however, be far more powerful and all-prevailing as recent global surveys show that humans kill prey at much higher rates than other predators, due partly to technologies such as hunting with dogs or guns. We comprehensively experimentally tested whether wildlife's fear of humans exceeds even that of lions, by quantifying fear responses in the majority of carnivore and ungulate species (n = 19) inhabiting South Africa`s Greater Kruger National Park (GKNP), using automated camera-speaker systems at waterholes during the dry season that broadcast playbacks of humans, lions, hunting sounds (dogs, gunshots) or non-predator controls (birds).

The motivation of this work is to analyze the in-band intermodulation distortion (IMD) occurring in surface acoustic wave (SAW) devices, using a recently developed fast method based on the input-output equivalent sources (IOES). The method calculates the equivalent current sources of a given harmonic (H) or IMD, which when applied at the boundaries of any uniform nonlinear region produce the same nonlinearities as the full distributed circuit. The accuracy of the method is validated with a very simplified SAW resonator with ten digits, which is modeled by a discretized Mason-based circuit.

Human exposure data to high atomic number, high-energy (HZE) radiation is lacking, so data from low linear energy transfer (low-LET) γ-ray radiation is used in risk models, with the assumption that HZE and γ-ray radiation have comparable biological effects. EBV transforms B cells in vitro and causes human B-cell lymphomas including classical Hodgkin lymphoma (CHL), Burkitt lymphoma (BL) and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL). The EBV latency protein, EBNA2, transcriptionally activates the promoters of all latent viral protein-coding genes expressed in type III EBV latency and is essential for EBV's ability to transform B cells in vitro. However, EBNA2 is not expressed in EBV-infected CHLs and BLs in humans.

Background: Iliosacral screw fixation is safe and effective but can be complicated by loss of fixation, particularly in patients with osteopenic bone. Sacral morphology dictates where iliosacral screws may be placed when stabilizing pelvic ring injuries. In dysmorphic sacra, the safe osseous corridor of the upper sacral segment (S1) is smaller and lacks a transsacral corridor, increasing the need for fixation in the second sacral segment (S2).

Camera trap technology has galvanized the study of predator-prey ecology in wild animal communities by expanding the scale and diversity of predator-prey interactions that can be analysed. While observational data from systematic camera arrays have informed inferences on the spatiotemporal outcomes of predator-prey interactions, the capacity for observational studies to identify mechanistic drivers of species interactions is limited. Experimental study designs that utilize camera traps uniquely allow for testing hypothesized mechanisms that drive predator and prey behaviour, incorporating environmental realism not possible in the laboratory while benefiting from the distinct capacity of camera traps to generate large datasets from multiple species with minimal observer interference.

Although it is considered an accreditation requirement in most health science disciplines, little is known about first year student's perceptions of IPE in Canada. Humans are infected with two distinct strains (Type 1 (T1) and Type 2 (T2)) of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) that differ substantially in their EBNA2 and EBNA 3A/B/C latency genes and the ability to transform B cells in vitro. While most T1 EBV strains contain the "prototype" form of the BZLF1 immediate-early promoter ("Zp-P"), all T2 strains contain the "Zp-V3" variant, which contains an NFAT binding motif and is activated much more strongly by B-cell receptor signalling. Whether B cells infected with T2 EBV are more lytic than cells infected with T1 EBV is unknown.
