Brain asymmetries are hypothesized to reduce functional duplication and thus have evolutionary advantages. The goal of this study was to examine whether early brain lateralization contributes to skill development within the speech-language domain. To achieve this goal, 25 infants (2-13 months old) underwent behavioral language examination and fMRI during sleep while listening to forward and backward speech, and then were assessed on various language skills at 55-69 months old.

Molecular evolution and genotype shift of Porcine circoviruses type 2 in Vietnam.

Antimicrobial, Cytotoxic, and -Glucosidase Inhibitory Activities of Ethanol Extract and Chemical Constituents Isolated from Propolis-In Vitro and Molecular Docking Studies.

The chemical investigation of propolis collected in Binh Dinh province, Vietnam, led to the isolation of nine compounds, including four sesquiterpenes: spathulenol (), 1H,5H-aromandendrane-4,10-diol (), 1,6-dihydroxy-4(15)-eudesmene (), and 1H,5H-aromandendrane-4,10-diol (); three triterpenes: acetyl oleanolic acid (), 3-hydroxytirucalla-8,24-dien-21-oic acid (), and ursolic acid (); and two xanthones: cochinchinone A () and -mangostin (). Sesquiterpens - and triterpene were isolated for the first time from stingless bee propolis. Plants in the and genus were suggested as resin sources of the propolis sample.

Jupiter's Low-Altitude Auroral Zones: Fields, Particles, Plasma Waves, and Density Depletions.

The Juno spacecraft's polar orbits have enabled direct sampling of Jupiter's low-altitude auroral field lines. While various data sets have identified unique features over Jupiter's main aurora, they are yet to be analyzed altogether to determine how they can be reconciled and fit into the bigger picture of Jupiter's auroral generation mechanisms. Jupiter's main aurora has been classified into distinct "zones", based on repeatable signatures found in energetic electron and proton spectra.

Peak shape enhancement using diethylamine in hydrophilic liquid interaction chromatography: Application in simultaneous determination of methionine and paracetamol.

Methionine (MET) is combined with paracetamol (PAR) in a pain relief soft capsule in order to prevent the haematologic damage of paracetamol. A hydrophillic liquid chromatographic (HILIC) method was developed for simultaneous determination of PAR and MET in the combined formulation. Various analytical conditions were investigated, and the final method was chosen using silica column (150 × 4,6 mm; 5 μm), mobile phase of acetonitrile - aqueous solution of 10 mM formic acid 5 mM diethylamine (60:40, v/v), UV detection at 254 nm for PAR and 210 nm for MET.

Exploration of certain 1,3-oxazole- and 1,3-thiazole-based hydroxamic acids as histone deacetylase inhibitors and antitumor agents.

Several novel series of hydroxamic acids bearing 2-benzamidooxazole/thiazole (5a-g, 6a-g) or 2-phenylsulfonamidothiazole (8a-c) were designed and synthesized. The compounds were obtained straightforwards via a two step pathway, starting from commercially available ethyl 2-aminooxazole-4-carboxylate or ethyl 2-aminothiazole-4-carboxylate. Biological evaluation showed that these hydroxamic acids generally exhibited good cytotoxicity against three human cancer cell lines (SW620, colon; PC-3, prostate; NCI-H23, lung cancer), with IC values in low micromolar range and comparable to that of SAHA.

Seasonal Stratospheric Photochemistry on Uranus and Neptune.

A time-variable 1D photochemical model is used to study the distribution of stratospheric hydrocarbons as a function of altitude, latitude, and season on Uranus and Neptune. The results for Neptune indicate that in the absence of stratospheric circulation or other meridional transport processes, the hydrocarbon abundances exhibit strong seasonal and meridional variations in the upper stratosphere, but that these variations become increasingly damped with depth due to increasing dynamical and chemical time scales. At high altitudes, hydrocarbon mixing ratios are typically largest where the solar insolation is the greatest, leading to strong hemispheric dichotomies between the summer-to-fall hemisphere and winter-to-spring hemisphere.

Comparing Electron Energetics and UV Brightness in Jupiter's Northern Polar Region During Juno Perijove 5.

We compare electron and UV observations mapping to the same location in Jupiter's northern polar region, poleward of the main aurora, during Juno perijove 5. Simultaneous peaks in UV brightness and electron energy flux are identified when observations map to the same location at the same time. The downward energy flux during these simultaneous observations was not sufficient to generate the observed UV brightness; the upward energy flux was.

Design, Synthesis and Evaluation of Novel 3/4-((Substituted benzamidophenoxy) methyl)-N-hydroxybenzamides/propenamides as Histone Deacetylase Inhibitors and Antitumor Agents.

Background: Histone Deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors represent an extensive class of targeted anticancer agents. Among the most explored structure moieties, hydroxybenzamides and hydroxypropenamides have been demonstrated to have potential HDAC inhibitory effects. Several compounds of these structural classes have been approved for clinical uses to treat different types of cancer, such as givinostat (ITF2357) and belinostat (PXD-101).

Photochemistry on Pluto - I. Hydrocarbons and aerosols.

In light of the recent flyby measurements, we present a coupled ion-neutral-photochemistry model developed for simulating the atmosphere of Pluto. Our model results closely match the observed density profiles of CH, N and the C hydrocarbons in the altitude range where available measurements are most accurate (above ~ 100-200 km). We found a high eddy coefficient of 10 cm s from the surface to an altitude of 150 km, and 3 × 10 cm s above 150 km for Pluto's atmosphere.

Photochemistry on Pluto: part II HCN and nitrogen isotope fractionation.

We have converted our Titan one-dimensional photochemical model to simulate the photo- chemistry of Pluto's atmosphere and include condensation and aerosol trapping in the model. We find that condensation and aerosol trapping are important processes in producing the HCN altitude profile observed by the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA). The nitrogen iso- tope chemistry in Pluto's atmosphere does not appear to significantly fractionate the isotope ratio between N and HCN as occurs at Titan.

Juno-UVS approach observations of Jupiter's auroras.

Juno ultraviolet spectrograph (UVS) observations of Jupiter's aurora obtained during approach are presented. Prior to the bow shock crossing on 24 June 2016, the Juno approach provided a rare opportunity to correlate local solar wind conditions with Jovian auroral emissions. Some of Jupiter's auroral emissions are expected to be controlled or modified by local solar wind conditions.

Jupiter's interior and deep atmosphere: The initial pole-to-pole passes with the Juno spacecraft.

On 27 August 2016, the Juno spacecraft acquired science observations of Jupiter, passing less than 5000 kilometers above the equatorial cloud tops. Images of Jupiter's poles show a chaotic scene, unlike Saturn's poles. Microwave sounding reveals weather features at pressures deeper than 100 bars, dominated by an ammonia-rich, narrow low-latitude plume resembling a deeper, wider version of Earth's Hadley cell.

Educating Asthmatic Children in European Ambulatory Pediatrics: Facts and Insights.

The aim of this study was to assess the role of European ambulatory pediatricians in caring for asthmatic children, especially in terms of their therapeutic education. We developed a survey that was observational, declarative, retrospective and anonymous in nature. 436 ambulatory pediatricians in Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and Slovenia were asked to participate in the survey providing information on three children over 6 years old suffering from persistent asthma, who had been followed for at least 6 months.

[Reasons for low usage of strep A rapid antigen detection tests for pharyngitis in private medical practice].

Unlabelled: Rapid group A Streptococcus (GAS) antigen detection tests (RDT) have high diagnostic performance for the management of acute pharyngitis and are recommended before any antibiotic (ATB) prescription in France to reduce ATB use. The rate of general practitioners (GPs) using GAS RDT is low and decreasing. Our aims were to describe the reasons for pediatricians and GPs not using RDT or for prescribing ATB despite of a negative RDT.

New benzothiazole/thiazole-containing hydroxamic acids as potent histone deacetylase inhibitors and antitumor agents.

Results from clinical studies have demonstrated that inhibitors of histone deacetylase (HDAC) enzymes possess promise for the treatment of several types of cancer. Zolinza(®) (widely known as SAHA) has been approved by the FDA for the treatment of T-cell lymphoma. As a continuity of our ongoing research to find novel small molecules to target these important enzymes, we synthesized a series of benzothiazole-containing analogues of SAHA and found several compounds with very potent anticancer cytotoxicity.

[Systemic adverse effects of topical ocular instillation of atropine in two children].

A medication-related cause must be sought when unusual symptoms occur. Topical treatments, including eye drops, whose side effects are more common in exposed children, need to be verified. We report here the cases of two children who developed systemic symptoms after the administration of atropine-based mydriatic eye drops.

Risk of bacterial meningitis in young children with a first seizure in the context of fever: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Of major concern in any febrile child presenting with a seizure is the possibility of bacterial meningitis (BM). We did a systematic review to estimate the risk of BM among various subgroups of young children with a first seizure in the context of fever, and to assess the utility of routine lumbar puncture (LP) in children with an apparent first FS.

Methods/principal Findings: MEDLINE, INIST, and the COCHRANE Library databases were searched from inception to December 2011 for published studies, supplemented by manual searches of bibliographies of potentially relevant articles and review articles.

The value of body weight measurement to assess dehydration in children.

Dehydration secondary to gastroenteritis is one of the most common reasons for office visits and hospital admissions. The indicator most commonly used to estimate dehydration status is acute weight loss. Post-illness weight gain is considered as the gold-standard to determine the true level of dehydration and is widely used to estimate weight loss in research.

Impact of travel on the seroprevalence of hepatitis A in children.

Background: Recent data about hepatitis A virus (HAV) seroprevalence in industrialized countries and the impact of travels to endemic areas are sparse or absent, particularly for children.

Objective: To determine the impact of travel to endemic areas on HAV seroprevalence and estimate the overall HAV seroprevalence in children in France. To identify risk factors for positive HAV serologic results.

Consensus in diagnostic definitions for bone or joint infections in children by a Delphi method with European French-speaking experts.

Aim: Various diagnostic criteria have been proposed for bone or joint infection. This study used a Delphi process to determine the consensual definitions for arthritis, osteomyelitis and bone or joint infections in general in children.

Methods: A group of European French-speaking experts participated in an email Delphi process.

As a part of our ongoing effort to identify novel small molecules to target these important enzymes, we have prepared two series of benzothiazole-containing analogues of SAHA.

Effectiveness of multifunction paediatric short-stay units: a French multicentre study.

Aim: To describe the characteristics of the activities of multifunction paediatric 'short-stay units' (SSU) including observation unit (OU), medical assessment and planning unit (MAPU) and holding unit (HU), to evaluate their effectiveness and to explore predictors of inappropriate admissions for OU patients.

Methods: Admissions to nine French paediatric SSUs were analysed. The main outcome measures were SSU length of stay with associated outcome for all patients and appropriate admission rate for OU patients.
