Reasons for refusal of the human papillomavirus vaccine among young cancer survivors.

Background: Cancer survivors are at risk for developing subsequent human papillomavirus (HPV)-related malignancies. HPV vaccination rates among survivors remain low, and the reasons for refusal of the vaccine are unclear in this population.

Methods: The authors conducted a secondary analysis of data from an open-label clinical trial evaluating the immunogenicity and safety of the HPV vaccine among vaccine-naive cancer survivors who were 9-26 years old and 1-5 years from the completion of their cancer treatment.

Enrolling Older Adults Onto National Cancer Institute-Funded Clinical Trials in Community Oncology Clinics: Barriers and Solutions.

In April 2021, the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Division of Cancer Prevention collaborated with the NCI Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis to produce a virtual workshop that developed recommendations for enhancing NCI-sponsored clinical trial accrual of older adults. Prior to the workshop, a multidisciplinary group of stakeholders (eg, community oncologists, advanced practice practitioners, clinic and research staff, and patient advocates) gathered information related to accrual of older adults to clinical trials from the literature. Subsequently, a survey was conducted to detail NCI Community Oncology Research Program members' perspective on accrual barriers for this population; 305 individuals responded to the survey.

Randomized controlled trial of an internet-based self-guided hand exercise program to improve hand function in people with systemic sclerosis: the Scleroderma Patient-centered Intervention Network Hand Exercise Program (SPIN-HAND) trial.

Background: Systemic sclerosis (scleroderma; SSc) is a rare autoimmune connective tissue disease. Functional impairment of hands is common. The Scleroderma Patient-centered Intervention Network (SPIN)-HAND trial compared effects of offering access to an online self-guided hand exercise program to usual care on hand function (primary) and functional health outcomes (secondary) in people with SSc with at least mild hand function limitations.

Genome-Wide Association Study Identifies as a Novel Susceptibility Gene for Anthracycline-Related Cardiomyopathy in Childhood Cancer Survivors.

Purpose: Interindividual variability in the dose-dependent association between anthracyclines and cardiomyopathy suggests a modifying role of genetic susceptibility. Few previous studies have examined gene-anthracycline interactions. We addressed this gap using the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (discovery) and the Children's Oncology Group (COG) study COG-ALTE03N1 (replication).

The impact of an annual major recreational boating event on water quality in the Solent Strait.

A long-term historical analysis of the impacts of recreational boating on marine surface water quality during a regatta (Cowes Week) in an internationally crucial waterway, the Solent Strait (Hampshire, UK) is presented. Water quality indicators studied included nitrogen concentration, bacterial indicators, and oxygen saturation, at three sampling sites at/near Cowes during 2001-2019. Findings include that sewage discharge from recreational boats is the key contributor to localised faecal contamination of marine surface waters, putting bathers and shellfisheries at risk.

Definition and attributes of the emotional memory images underlying psychophysiological dis-ease.

Background: Previously, we proposed a "" model to explain how emotional memories could be preventing clients from adapting to the stressors of daily living, thus forming a barrier to learning, health and well-being. We suggested that these emotional memories were mental images stored inside the mind as 'emotional memory images' (EMIs).

Objective: To elaborate on the nature of these emotional memory images within the context of split-second learning and unlearning and the broader field of psychoanalysis, to initiate a conversation among scholars concerning the path that future healthcare research, practice, and policy should take.

Extending the CARE Principles from tribal research policies to benefit sharing in genomic research.

Indigenous Peoples have historically been targets of extractive research that has led to little to no benefit. In genomics, such research not only exposes communities to harms and risks of misuse, but also deprives such communities of potential benefits. Tribes in the US have been exercising their sovereignty to limit this extractive practice by adopting laws and policies to govern research on their territories and with their citizens.

Associations between exercise capacity, p16 expression and inflammation among adult survivors of childhood cancer.

Background: Over 50% of childhood cancer survivors are exercise intolerant, with maximal aerobic capacities comparable to individuals decades older, suggesting early physiologic ageing. In addition, 36% of survivors are obese. Optimal exercise capacity provides a foundation to support daily function and healthy body habitus and is associated with benefits to cognition, cardiovascular health, and longevity.

The soybean Rpp1 locus confers resistance to Phakopsora pachyrhizi, causal agent of rust, and resistance is usually dominant over susceptibility. However, dominance of Rpp1-mediated resistance is lost when a resistant genotype (Rpp1 or Rpp1b) is crossed with susceptible line TMG06_0011, and the mechanism of this dominant susceptibility (DS) is unknown. Sequencing the Rpp1 region reveals that the TMG06_0011 Rpp1 locus has a single nucleotide-binding site leucine-rich repeat (NBS-LRR) gene (DS-R), whereas resistant PI 594760B (Rpp1b) is similar to PI 200492 (Rpp1) and has three NBS-LRR resistance gene candidates.

Energy cost of walking in obese survivors of acute lymphoblastic leukemia: A report from the St. Jude Lifetime Cohort.

Purpose: Adult survivors of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) have impaired adaptive physical function and poor health-related quality of life (HRQoL). Obesity may contribute to these impairments by increasing the physiological cost of walking. Due to treatment exposures during ALL therapy, survivors' cost of walking may be more impacted by obesity than the general population.

Identification of outcome domains in immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced inflammatory arthritis and polymyalgia rheumatica: A scoping review by the OMERACT irAE working group.

Introduction: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI), increasingly used cancer therapeutics, can cause off-target inflammatory effects called immune-related adverse events (irAEs), including ICI-induced inflammatory arthritis (ICI-induced IA) and polymyalgia rheumatica (ICI-induced PMR). There are no validated classification criteria or outcome measures for these conditions, and adaptation of treatment recommendations from corresponding rheumatic diseases may not be appropriate. We summarized clinical descriptors of ICI-induced IA and ICI-induced PMR and aggregated domains used for these conditions in order to inform the development of a core set of outcome domains.
