Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the roles of circulating mRNAs (VEGF, PTEN, and SOCS1) in the progression of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) to better understand its molecular mechanisms and identify potential biomarkers for the disease.
  • - Researchers analyzed blood samples from 160 NPC patients and 80 controls, finding higher levels of VEGF and SOCS1 mRNAs in advanced stages of NPC, while PTEN mRNA was significantly decreased.
  • - The results suggest that changes in these mRNAs are linked to NPC progression and could be useful as biomarkers, though further research is needed to confirm their effectiveness in predicting outcomes for NPC patients.

  • Contraceptive implant migration, particularly to the ulnar nerve, is a rare but significant complication that requires careful diagnostic and imaging techniques during insertion and removal procedures.
  • A case study of a 32-year-old woman revealed that her Implanon was found embedded within the ulnar nerve, highlighting the need for diligent removal methods to prevent nerve damage.
  • It's important for patients experiencing pain or complications from implants to be referred to experienced family planning specialists and peripheral nerve surgeons to ensure the best possible care.

Rice intake represents a significant pathway through which humans accumulate heavy metals. This study presents a comprehensive analysis of heavy metal and pesticide contamination in rice cultivars irrigated with industrial wastewater near Dhaka, Bangladesh, a region heavily influenced by industrial activities. This study employed a unique methodology that not only quantified the concentrations of heavy metals and pesticide residues in rice grains but also extended to evaluating the physicochemical properties of rice stems, husks, soil, and irrigation water.

In this study, four different plant species, namely Artocarpus heterophyllus, Mangifera indica, Psidium guajava, and Swietenia mahagoni, were selected from seven different locations to assess the feasibility of using them as a cost-effective alternative for biomonitoring air quality. Atmospheric coarse particulate matter (PM), soil samples, and leaf samples were collected from residential, industrial, and traffic-congested sites located in the greater Dhaka region. The heavy metal concentrations (Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb, and Zn) in the leaves of the different species, PM, and soil samples were analyzed.

Pazopanib exhibits pH-dependent solubility and its absorption depends primarily on the stomach pH. Significant decrease of pazopanib absorption by coadministration with proton pump inhibitors in clinical situation need to be overcome. Thus, the purpose of this study is firstly to investigate the effect of acidic beverages and sodium citrate buffer on the solubility of pazopanib and secondly to examine the effect of sodium citrate buffer on pazopanib absorption in a rat model with esomeprazole-mediated gastric acid suppression.

Introduction: The coronavirus pandemic has demonstrated profound issues with using the Internet to research health information. For patients recommended a complex operation, such as the Whipple pancreaticoduodenectomy, the quality of health information online has not been appraised. The objective of this study was to define the readability and content quality of YouTube search results for the Whipple pancreaticoduodenectomy.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the potential of sexual intercourse as a treatment to help pass ureteral stones, comparing its effects to a control group.
  • Of 160 male participants, the group engaging in sex had a higher stone expulsion rate (68.18% at 2 weeks, 80% at 4 weeks) than the control group.
  • While sexual intercourse may assist in passing these stones and reduce the need for pain relief, it is not recommended as the only treatment option.

Introduction: In 2021, the National Academy of Medicine began collaborating with YouTube to highlight high-quality channels for patients seeking medical information. This study evaluates whether YouTube videos from accredited publishers are useful for patients searching for information regarding liver transplantation.

Methods: After searching "Liver Transplant" on YouTube, the first 100 results under 10 min long with English text or audio were transcribed.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the atmospheric particles constitute a topic of growing health concern. This study aims to calculate PAH concentrations, identify the source, assess the health risk from exposure to carcinogenic PAHs, and the respiratory deposition flux. PM and PM were collected in September 2019 in the urban, semi-urban, and semi-urban-industrial areas of Kuala Lumpur, Batu Pahat, and Bukit Rambai, respectively.

Importance: About half of people younger than 65 years with private insurance are enrolled in a high-deductible health plan (HDHP). While these plans entail substantially higher out-of-pocket costs for patients with chronic medical conditions who require ongoing care, their effect on patients undergoing surgery who require acute care is poorly understood. It is plausible that higher out-of-pocket costs may lead to delays in care and more complex surgical conditions.

Article Synopsis
  • * It analyzes data from 42 studies, finding HBV infection is linked to a higher risk of gestational diabetes and preterm birth in natural pregnancies, but does not significantly affect fertility rates in IVF patients.
  • * The conclusion suggests that while HBV increases certain pregnancy risks, IVF may be a safe and effective option for women with HBV who want to conceive.

Silicon carbide has been used in a variety of applications including solar cells due to its high stability. The high bandgap of pristine SiC, necessitates nonstoichiometric silicon carbide materials to be considered to tune the band gap for efficient solar light absorptions. In this regards, thermodynamically stable Si-rich SiC materials can be used in solar cell applications without requiring the expensive pure grade silicon or pure grade silicon carbide.

Copper cysteamine (Cu-Cy) is a new type of photosensitizer, which can be activated not only by ultraviolet light, but also by X-rays, microwaves and ultrasound to generate reactive oxygen species for treating cancer and infection diseases. Moreover, copper cysteamine has a strong luminescence, which can be used for both therapeutics and imaging. In addition, it can also be used for solid state lighting, radiation detection and sensing.

Two polymorphs of AgVO , namely the α- and β- forms, were prepared and their physical, structural, optical, electrochemical, and photoelectrochemical characteristics were compared using a battery of experimental and theoretical tools. A two-step method, previously developed in the our laboratory for the electrodeposition of inorganic semiconductor films, was applied to the electrosynthesis of silver vanadate (AgVO ) films on transparent, conducting oxide surfaces. In the first step, silver was cathodically deposited from a non-aqueous bath containing silver nitrate.

We have applied density functional theory to study the electronic structure changes caused by Nb incorporation in BiVO and the application of external pressure. The overall solubility of Nb in BiVO is usually high, and the presence of oxygen vacancies affect the dopability of Nb in BiVO . Through the analyses of the chemical-potential landscape, we have determined the single-phase stability zone of BiVO with the Nb doping.

As a potential solar absorber material, CuS has proved its importance in the field of renewable energy. However, almost all the known minerals of CuS suffer from spontaneous Cu vacancy formation in the structure. The Cu vacancy formation causes the structure to possess very high p-type doping that leads the material to behave as a degenerate semiconductor.

Density functional theory was performed for thermodynamic predictions on natural gas, whose B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p), B3LYP/6-31+G(d), CBS-QB3, G3, and G4 methods were applied. Additionally, we carried out thermodynamic predictions using G3/G4 averaged. The calculations were performed for each major component of seven kinds of natural gas and to their respective air + natural gas mixtures at a thermal equilibrium between room temperature and the initial temperature of a combustion chamber during the injection stage.
