Transabdominal ultrasound (US) and magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) are used to assess disease activity and extent in IBD, but their impact on therapeutic decisions is unclear. Therefore, our study has two goals: to compare the usefulness of US and MRE in assessing disease extent and activity in the small and large bowel, and to determine the relevance for clinical decisions in IBD. We included 54 IBD patients who had undergone both MRE and US within three months.

Rapid quantification of cannabidiol from oils by direct analysis in real time mass spectrometry.

This work is the first to describe the use of Direct Analysis in Real Time Mass Spectrometry (DART-MS) for the rapid quantification of cannabidiol (CBD) in CBD oils. For this study, self-prepared samples spiked with CBD in hemp seed oil as well as commercial CBD oils from the Austrian market with different CBD contents were analyzed. CBD concentrations were between 5 and 30% (m/m) for the spiked samples as well as between 5 and 15% (m/m) for the real samples.

We recently discovered a morpholin-3-one derivative as a novel scaffold for imaging MAGL via positron emission tomography (PET). However, its slow kinetics in vivo hampered the application.

Regimen of Coronavirus Disease 2019 Vaccination Influences Extent and Kinetics of Antibody Avidity.

We investigated antibody titers and avidity after heterologous versus homologous coronavirus disease 2019 vaccination over 6 months after the second dose. We found a significantly higher avidity in regimens including at least 1 dose of the adenoviral vector vaccine ChAdOx1-S compared with 2 doses of the mRNA vaccine BNT162b2.

Association of immune cell subsets with incident heart failure in two population-based cohorts.

Aims: Circulating inflammatory markers are associated with incident heart failure (HF), but prospective data on associations of immune cell subsets with incident HF are lacking. We determined the associations of immune cell subsets with incident HF as well as HF subtypes [with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF)].

Methods And Results: Peripheral blood immune cell subsets were measured in adults from the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA) and Cardiovascular Health Study (CHS).

Here we show that the response of human hepatocellular carcinoma cells to arsenite exposure is regulated by the availability of queuine, a micronutrient and essential precursor to the wobble modification queuosine (Q) on tRNAs reading GUN codons.

Video-based simulations in teacher education: the role of learner characteristics as capacities for positive learning experiences and high performance.

Assessing students on-the-fly is an important but challenging task for teachers. In initial teacher education, a call has been made to better prepare pre-service teachers for this complex task. Advances in technology allow this training to be done through authentic learning environments, such as video-based simulations.

Wakeful resting and listening to music are powerful means to modulate memory. How these activities affect memory when directly compared has not been tested so far. In two experiments, participants encoded and immediately recalled two word lists followed by either 6 min wakefully resting or 6 min listening to music.

The COVID-19 consumption game-changer: Evidence from a large-scale multi-country survey.

Prospective economic developments depend on the behavior of consumer spending. A key question is whether private expenditures recover once social distancing restrictions are lifted or whether the COVID-19 crisis has a sustained impact on consumer confidence, preferences, and, hence, spending. The elongated and profound experience of the COVID-19 crisis may durably affect consumer preferences.

High-resolution analysis of individual spike peptide-specific CD4 T-cell responses in vaccine recipients and COVID-19 patients.

Objectives: Potential differences in the breadth, distribution and magnitude of CD4 T-cell responses directed against the SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein between vaccinees, COVID-19 patients and subjects who experienced both ways of immunisation have not been comprehensively compared on a peptide level.

Methods: Following virus-specific cultivation, we determined the T-cell responses directed against 253 individual overlapping 15-mer peptides covering the entire SARS-CoV-2 spike glycoprotein using IFN-γ ELISpot and intracellular cytokine staining. HLA binding was determined for selected peptides.

To understand marriage patterns, homogamy, and fertility of women of European ancestry in the United States from an evolutionary perspective, we investigated if a prevalence of ancestral homogamy exists, the factors influencing a female preference for an ancestral homogamous vs. heterogamous marriage, and if ancestral homogamous vs. heterogamous marriages have an impact on fertility.

Evidence of surface contamination in hospital rooms occupied by patients infected with monkeypox, Germany, June 2022.

The extent of monkeypox virus environmental contamination of surfaces is unclear. We examined surfaces in rooms occupied by two monkeypox patients on their fourth hospitalisation day. Contamination with up to 105 viral copies/cm2 on inanimate surfaces was estimated by PCR and the virus was successfully isolated from surfaces with more than 106 copies.

High and Sustained Ex Vivo Frequency but Altered Phenotype of SARS-CoV-2-Specific CD4 T-Cells in an Anti-CD20-Treated Patient with Prolonged COVID-19.

Here, we longitudinally assessed the ex vivo frequency and phenotype of SARS-CoV-2 membrane protein (aa145-164) epitope-specific CD4 T-cells of an anti-CD20-treated patient with prolonged viral positivity in direct comparison to an immunocompetent patient through an MHC class II DRB1*11:01 Tetramer analysis. We detected a high and stable SARS-CoV-2 membrane-specific CD4 T-cell response in both patients, with higher frequencies of virus-specific CD4 T-cells in the B-cell-depleted patient. However, we found an altered virus-specific CD4 T-cell memory phenotype in the B-cell-depleted patient that was skewed towards late differentiated memory T-cells, as well as reduced frequencies of SARS-CoV-2-specific CD4 T-cells with CD45RA CXCR5 PD-1 circulating T follicular helper cell (cT) phenotype.

Transcriptional Pattern Analysis of Virus-Specific CD8+ T Cells in Hepatitis C Infection: Increased Expression of TOX and Eomesodermin During and After Persistent Antigen Recognition.

Thymocyte selection-associated high mobility group box (TOX) has been described to be a key regulator in the formation of CD8+ T cell exhaustion. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection with different lengths of antigen exposure in acute, chronic, and after resolution of HCV infection is the ideal immunological model to study the expression of TOX in HCV-specific CD8+ T cells with different exposure to antigen. HCV-specific CD8+ T cells from 35 HLA-A*01:01, HLA-A*02:01, and HLA-A*24:02 positive patients were analyzed with a 16-color FACS-panel evaluating the surface expression of lineage markers (CD3, CD8), ectoenzymes (CD39, CD73), markers of differentiation (CD45RO, CCR7, CD127), and markers of exhaustion and activation (TIGIT, PD-1, KLRG1, CD226) and transcription factors (TOX, Eomesodermin, T-bet).

Neurofibromatosis type 1: A comparison of the 1997 NIH and the 2021 revised diagnostic criteria in 75 children and adolescents.

Recently, chalcogen bonding has been investigated in more detail in organocatalysis and the scope of activated functionalities continues to increase. Herein, the activation of imines in a Povarov [4+2] cycloaddition reaction with bidentate cationic chalcogen bond donors is presented. Tellurium-based Lewis acids show superior properties compared to selenium-based catalysts and inactive sulfur-based analogues.
