This observational study highlights the prognostic value of pathological Q waves at presentation in the Southeast Asian population.

Methods: Multiethnic Asian patients presenting with STEMI and treated with primary coronary intervention were recruited from 2015 to 2019.

Article Synopsis
  • A study forecasts a 91.2% increase in crude cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality in Asia from 2025 to 2050, despite a 23.0% decrease in the age-standardized mortality rate.
  • Ischaemic heart disease and stroke will remain the top causes of mortality, with Central Asia experiencing the highest mortality rates while high systolic blood pressure is identified as the leading risk factor across most of Asia.
  • The research highlights the need for targeted health interventions due to the significant variations in CVD burden across different regions in Asia.

Introduction: In 2022, the Minister for Health of Singapore launched Healthier SG, a national strategy in championing the shift towards a population health approach.

Method: The Singapore Heart Foundation conducted a series of roundtable discussions, also attended by representatives of the Singapore Cardiac Society and the Chapter of Cardiologists of the Academy of Medicine Singapore. During the meetings, the authors formulated interventions supportive of Healthier SG that specifically aimed to uplift the state of cardiovascular (CV) preventive care in Singapore.

Aim: Patients with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) are at increased risk of incident cardiovascular disease. However, the clinical characteristics and prognostic importance of MASLD in patients presenting with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) have yet to be examined.

Methods: This study compared the characteristics and outcomes of patients with and without MASLD presenting with AMI at a tertiary centre in Singapore.

Background: Limited studies have investigated the association between statin therapy and poor glycemic control, especially in the Chinese diabetic population.

Methods: Two prospective diabetes cohorts were drawn from the Kailuan Cohort. In Cohort 1, linear regression models were used to evaluate the association between statin therapy and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level change.

  • Coronary physiologic assessment measures key factors like pressure and flow in the heart to guide treatment strategies for patients with coronary artery disease.
  • A wealth of research supports the importance of these assessments, which have influenced major clinical practice guidelines.
  • This document, the first part of a larger consensus, offers practical recommendations for healthcare professionals in the Asia-Pacific region and discusses both traditional and advanced imaging methods for evaluating coronary physiology.

Article Synopsis
  • * Overweight/obesity is forecasted to not only be the most rapidly growing risk factor but also the leading cause of AMI-related deaths, with a staggering 294.7% increase in mortality associated with it.
  • * Disparities exist among ethnic groups, with Indian and Malay populations facing a higher burden of obesity and AMI-related mortality compared to Chinese individuals.

Introduction: Management of aortic stenosis (AS) in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) may often be overlooked, and this could confer poorer outcomes.

Methods: Consecutive patients ( n = 727) with index echocardiographic diagnosis of moderate to severe AS (aortic valve area <1.5 cm 2 ) were examined.

Aims: In acute coronary syndrome (ACS) patients without advanced renal dysfunction [estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) < 30 mL/min/1.73 m2], early (within 24 h of admission) angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor/angiotensin receptor blocker (ACEI/ARB) is the guideline-directed medical therapy. The clinical efficacy of early ACEI/ARB therapy among ACS patients with advanced renal dysfunction remains unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how common hepatic steatosis (fatty liver) and fibrosis are in patients who have experienced an acute myocardial infarction (heart attack) and looks at their impact on mortality.
  • Among 5,765 patients studied, about 24.8% had hepatic steatosis, with 41.7% of those also having advanced fibrosis, which was linked to higher death rates over an average follow-up of 2.7 years.
  • The research concludes that hepatic steatosis and fibrosis are prevalent in post-AMI patients and significantly increase the risk of mortality, suggesting they could be important factors for assessing patient risk alongside traditional factors.

To combat the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, many countries have started population vaccination programs using messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccines. With the widespread use of such vaccines, reports are emerging worldwide, of the vaccine's association with the development of myocarditis. Younger men are more likely to develop postvaccine myocarditis, which usually presents as self-limiting chest pain within a week after the second dose.

Objectives: Motivators and barriers are pivotal factors in the adoption of health behaviors. This study aims to identify patterns of the motivators and barriers influencing heart health behaviors among multi-ethnic Asian adults with behavior-modifiable risk factors for heart disease, namely obesity, physical inactivity and smoking.

Methods: A population-based survey of 1,000 participants was conducted in Singapore.

Aims: The aim of the study was to report the clinical experience, 30-day mortality and acute outcomes of patients undergoing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) in the Asia Pacific region.

Methods And Results: The Asia Pacific TAVI registry is an international, multicentre, prospective, observational registry managed under the auspices of the Asian Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology (APSIC). Patients undergoing TAVI in seven centres from Hong Kong, Japan, Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan, treated with TAVI devices for severe symptomatic aortic stenosis, were assessed.

Background: The clinical significance of coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is not yet fully understood. We aimed to examine differences in clinical and procedural characteristics, clinical management, and outcomes in patients with CAE undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) for ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of consecutive patients presenting with STEMI with a culprit native coronary artery from July 2015 to June 2019.

Objectives: Gender differences historically exist in cardiovascular disease, with women experiencing higher rates of major adverse cardiovascular events. We investigated these trends in a contemporary Asian cohort, examining the impact of gender differences on cardiac mortality and ischemic stroke after primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) for ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Materials And Methods: We analysed 3971 consecutive patients who underwent primary PCI for STEMI retrospectively.

We evaluated the association between early coronary angiography (CAG) and outcomes in resuscitated out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients, by linking data from the Singapore Pan-Asian Resuscitation Outcomes Study, with a national registry of cardiac procedures. The 30-day survival and neurological outcome were compared between patients undergoing early CAG (within 1-calender day), versus patients not undergoing early CAG. Inverse probability weighted estimates (IPWE) adjusted for non-randomized CAG.

Background: This study was performed to investigate the clinical significance of combined evaluation of both coronary artery disease (CAD) and high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) for prediction of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM).

Methods: We performed clinical evaluations, including coronary artery imaging and hs-cTnT measurement, in 162 patients with HCM.

Results: The patients were followed up for a median period of 3.

Background: Biodegradable polymer drug eluting stents (BP-DES) may offer the advantage of vascular healing in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Long-term outcome data comparing BP-DES and second-generation durable polymer drug eluting stents (DP-DES) in STEMI is lacking. This study aims to compare the long-term clinical outcomes of BP-DES versus second-generation DP-DES in STEMI.
