Buffered chemical polishing (BCP) is an important and widely used polishing technique for superconducting radio-frequency (SRF) cavities made of niobium. A common problem encountered during BCP is the formation of bubbles and W-shaped pits on the cavity surface, which may severely limit the RF performance. We report a method to address the problem of W-shaped pits through optimizing the BCP acid ratio.

The initial phase of an insect's innate immune response to foreign pathogens is triggered by the identification of exogenous invaders, a mechanism facilitated by pattern recognition receptors. Among these receptors, peptidoglycan recognition proteins (PGRPs), abundant in insects, are essential components of the innate immune system. The roles of PGRPs have been extensively elucidated in ; however, the mechanism underlying the immune response of to pathogens is unclear.

This study aims to elucidate the population structure and genetic diversity of Xinjiang brown cattle (XJBC) and Chinese Simmental cattle (CSC) while conducting genome-wide selective signatures analyses to identify selected genes associated with milk production traits in both breeds. Based on whole-genome resequencing technology, whole-genome single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of 83 Xinjiang brown cattle and 80 Chinese Simmental cattle were detected to resolve the genetic diversity and genetic structure of the two populations, whole-genome selective elimination analysis was performed for the two breeds of cattle using the fixation index () and nucleotide diversity (θπ ratio), and enrichment analysis was performed to explore their biological functions further. Both breeds exhibited relatively rich genetic diversity, with the Chinese Simmental cattle demonstrating higher genetic diversity than Xinjiang brown cattle.

Epoxidation of long-chain α-olefins (LAOs) is a process of paramount importance, particularly in the preparation of epoxides. Traditional epoxidation methods, such as the chlorohydrin method and peracid method, suffer from issues such as poor selectivity, by-product formation, and environmental pollution. Mukaiyama epoxidation, with its mild reaction conditions and exceptional selectivity, has attracted widespread attention and considerable research.

The cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)-stimulator interferon genes (STING) signaling pathway plays a crucial role in activating innate and specific immunity in anti-tumor immunotherapy. As the major infiltrating cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME), tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) could be polarized into either anti-tumor M1 or pro-tumor M2 types based on various stimuli. Accordingly, targeted reprogramming TAMs to restore immune balance shows promise as an effective anti-tumor strategy.

The precise molecular mechanisms through which neutrophils regulate macrophages in the progression and resolution of acute inflammation remain poorly understood. Here, we present new findings on the role of Dicer in regulating macrophage phenotypic transitions essential for proper inflammatory progression and resolution, influenced by neutrophils. Using a zymosan A (Zym A)-induced self-limited mouse peritonitis model, we observed that Dicer expression in macrophages was significantly reduced by neutrophil-derived IFN-γ during the progression phase, but gradually returned to normal levels during the resolution phase following the engulfment of apoptotic neutrophils.

Although research on the activation of C-H bonds in alkanes has been ongoing for decades, there are still few strategies that are both highly selective and suitable for industrial production. Here, we report a highly selective method for chlorination of terminal C-H bonds in alkanes by combining electrochemistry and organocatalysis. The specific cavity size of organic molecular catalysts ensures high regioselectivity, while the use of inexpensive and easily reusable graphite felt electrodes, simple electrochemical device and mild conditions enables the reaction to maintain good efficiency even when scaled up to kilogram level production.

Human skin possesses individual and body fluid-specific microbial signatures potentially useful for forensic identification. Previous studies mostly attribute individuals based on the relative abundance of microbiota at single time point, however fluctuations in taxonomy and phylogenetic structure may cause this to be unreliable. In this study, we assessed the skin microbiome of individuals at consecutive time-point from fingers, palm, arm and forehead sites using full-length 16S rRNA gene sequencing.
