Programmed cell death ligand-1 (PD-L1) is an ideal checkpoint for immunohistochemical detection. The method of obtaining PD-L1 expression through biopsy can impact the accurate assessment of PD-L1 expression due to the spatial and temporal heterogeneity of tumors. Because of the limited sample size, biopsies often give only a localized picture of the tumor.

Article Synopsis
  • Myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury leads to heart cell death (apoptosis) and increased reactive oxygen species (ROS), with the role of CCDC8, a protein interacting with p53, being investigated.
  • The study assessed levels of CCDC8 in heart failure patients and animal models, using techniques like gene overexpression and silencing to understand its impact on heart injury.
  • Findings revealed elevated CCDC8 levels worsen heart dysfunction during I/R injury, while reducing CCDC8 protects heart cells from damage, indicating it may be a target for new heart disease treatments.

Background: Capillary refill time (CRT) is defined as the time taken for color to return to an external capillary bed after pressure is applied to cause blanching. Recent studies demonstrated the benefits of CRT in guiding fluid therapy for sepsis. However, lack of consistency among physicians in how to perform and interpret CRT has led to a low interobserver agreement for this assessment tool, which prevents its availability in sepsis clinical settings.

A direct way to reduce scan time for chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST)-magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is to reduce the number of CEST images acquired in experiments. In some scenarios, a sufficient number of CEST images acquired in experiments was needed to estimate parameters for quantitative analysis, and this prolonged the scan time. For that, we aim to develop a general deep-learning framework to reconstruct dense CEST Z-spectra from experimentally acquired images at sparse frequency offsets so as to reduce the number of experimentally acquired CEST images and achieve scan time reduction.

Astrocytes have countless links with neurons. Previously, astrocytes were only considered a scaffold of neurons; in fact, astrocytes perform a variety of functions, including providing support for neuronal structures and energy metabolism, offering isolation and protection and influencing the formation, function and elimination of synapses. Because of these functions, astrocytes play an critical role in central nervous system (CNS) diseases.
