Background: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of third-generation sequencing (TGS) and a thalassemia (Thal) gene diagnostic kit in identifying Thal gene mutations.
Methods: Blood samples (n = 119) with positive hematology screening results were tested using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based methods and TGS on the PacBio-Sequel-II-platform, respectively.
Results: Out of the 119 cases, 106 cases showed fully consistent results between the two methods, with TGS identified HBA1/2 and HBB gene mutations in 82 individuals.

Background: To analyze the genotype distribution and frequency of hearing loss genes in newborn population and evaluate the clinical value of genetic screening policy in China.
Methods: Genetic screening for hearing loss was offered to 84,029 neonates between March 2019 and December 2021, of whom 77,647 newborns accepted the screening program with one-year follow-up. The genotyping of 15 hot spot variants in GJB2, GJB3, SLC26A4, and MT-RNR1 was performed on microarray platform.
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) contribute to cellular redox environment and serve as signaling molecules. Excessive ROS can lead to oxidative stress that are involved in a broad spectrum of physiological and pathological conditions. Stem cells have unique ROS regulation while cancer cells frequently show a constitutive oxidative stress that is associated with the invasive phenotype.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFAberrant mitophagy has been implicated in a broad spectrum of disorders. PINK1, Parkin, and ubiquitin have pivotal roles in priming mitophagy. However, the entire regulatory landscape and the precise control mechanisms of mitophagy remain to be elucidated.
