Objective: To assess if patients with enlarged vestibular aqueduct (EVA) experience symptoms characteristic of other third mobile window disorders such as superior semicircular canal dehiscence syndrome (SCDS).
Study Design: Cross-sectional study.
Setting: Tertiary care center.
Background: With growing evidence linking lipid profile changes to tumor development and cancer prognosis, we investigated the prognostic significance of preoperative serum total cholesterol (TC) levels in patients with oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) undergoing surgical treatment.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective observational study involving 310 patients with primary OSCC who received surgery at our hospital from January 2009 to December 2018. Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis was performed to determine the optimal preoperative TC cutoff value, with the Youden Index employed as the optimization criterion to maximize the sum of sensitivity and specificity.
Background/objectives: Chronic inflammation significantly contributes to human malignancies. We investigated the prognostic significance of the preoperative modified systemic inflammation score (mSIS) in patients with primary oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC).
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed data from 320 OCSCC patients who underwent curative surgery between 2007 and 2017.
Emerging tick-borne orthonairovirus infections pose a growing global concern, with limited understanding of the viral ovarian tumor-like cysteine proteases (vOTUs) encoded by novel orthonairoviruses. These vOTUs, a group of deubiquinylases (DUBs), disrupt the innate immune response. Yezo virus (YEZV), a recently discovered pathogenic orthonairovirus, was first reported in Japan in 2021.

Typically, an initial retrieval step using sparse methods such as BM25 is employed to obtain a set of pseudo-relevant documents, followed by re-ranking with a pre-trained model. However, the semantic information captured by pre-trained models from sentences or passages is usually only applied to document ranking, with limited use in query expansion.

Clinicians suspect GCA when a patient exhibits symptoms or exam findings of temporal headache with sudden vision loss, jaw or tongue claudication, scalp tenderness, abnormal temporal artery exam, and diagnostic findings, including elevated inflammatory markers. We present a case, which highlights that, despite established diagnostic measures, challenges persist.

Here, we analyzed in depth the genome of the previously studied bacteriophage OSYSP (phage OSYSP), revealed its application-related characteristics, and optimized its enumeration techniques for facilitating industrial implementation. We previously sequenced phage OSYSP genome completely by combining results from Illumina Miseq and Ion Torrent sequencing platforms and completing the remaining sequence gaps using PCR.

Methods: We conducted an MR study using genetic instrumental variables for 83 dietary preferences from the UK Biobank, with the Inverse Variance Weighted method as the primary analysis.
Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate changes in the expression of members of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) family in response to lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation and to investigate the regulatory effects of BMP9 on MMPs.
Design: The extracted human stem cells from the apical papilla (hSCAPs) were identified by flow cytometry, Alizarin Red staining, Oil Red O staining, and alkaline phosphatase staining. The appropriate LPS concentration for inducing inflammation in hSCAPs was determined using real-time quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) and Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assays.
Purpose: Neoadjuvant therapy (NT) is increasingly used for gastrointestinal (GI) and hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) cancers. Risk factors for surgical attrition during NT are poorly understood. A planned secondary analysis of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) from a prospective cohort study of patients undergoing NT was performed to identify factors associated with surgical attrition.

Methods: The PIVOT trial is a pragmatic, open-label, multicenter randomized controlled trial. It aims to recruit 514 patients in Hsinchu County, Taiwan.
Background: Dichloroacetate (DCA), a pan-pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase inhibitor, ameliorates multiple pathological conditions and tissue injury and shows strong potential for clinical applications. Here, we investigated the preventive effects of DCA in a murine model of alcohol-associated liver disease.
Methods: C57BL/6J mice were subjected to the acute-on-chronic model of alcohol-associated liver disease and treated with DCA.
Background: Effective treatment options are scarce for relapsed or refractory T-cell lymphoma. This study assesses the safety and activity of CTX130 (volamcabtagene durzigedleucel), a CD70-directed, allogeneic chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) immunotherapy manufactured from healthy donor T cells, in patients with relapsed or refractory T-cell lymphoma.
Methods: This single-arm, open-label, phase 1 study was done at ten medical centres across the USA, Australia, and Canada in patients (aged ≥18 years) with relapsed or refractory peripheral T-cell lymphoma or cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, who had received at least one or at least two previous systemic therapy lines, respectively, and had an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status of 0-1.
Importance: Several locoregional therapies (LRTs) for nonmetastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are available; however, a global comparison of the relative efficacy of each is needed.
Objective: To conduct a systematic review and direct, pairwise meta-analytic comparison of all identified randomized clinical trials evaluating the treatment of nonmetastatic HCC.
Data Sources: A comprehensive search of PubMed and the proceedings of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and American Society for Radiation Oncology annual meetings from January 1, 2010, to November 1, 2023, was performed.
Aflatoxin B (AFB) is a highly toxic substance found in food, necessitating rapid and sensitive detection methods. Combining interfacial capacitive sensing with AC electrothermal (ACET) enrichment, an aptasensor based on a PCB electrode array is developed for real-time detection of trace AFB. Owing to the sensitive solid-liquid capacitance with a pF-level resolution, AFB detection at sub-femtomolar level is achieved.

The colon mimic is connected to the liver model by a gravity-driven recirculating unidirectional flow of a blood surrogate and can mimic the five steps of the metastatic cascade: invasion in the colon, intravasation into the bloodstream, systemic transportation, extravasation into the liver, and colonization in the liver. The colon mimic uses established normal colon epithelial organoid cells (NL) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) plated on opposite sides of a membrane.
